Mooseboy:
crazed: Ofcourse you realise that the ones complaining about speed issues with Torrents aren't really going to get that fixed, the Slow down of torrents are exactly what the purpose behind the shaping of the traffic is for. As more than likely from Telecom's point of view they are happy that torrent speeds are low.

Thats one thing I've always wondered about, because torrent speeds have always been faster than HTTP for me.

A Good solution would be to perhaps put a cap of say 600KB/s on everything between 9AM and Midnight, and then from Midnight onwards - UNLEASH... That would indeed help this situation, I would say. Who gives Telecom the right to choose what to cap, who to cap, where to cap, or even WHY to cap a particular person or program etc?
I understand that SOME people are maxing out their connections monthly by downloading 24/7, but that's a percentage of customers on this plan, and a very few I would imagine. Most of us would really just like what we had back - it was fair, it was good, and it was worth the money that we were paying.

I think you will find you did, when you agreed to the terms and conditions of a Managed plan.
Its not as if Telecom didn't warn you this plan will be managed, so if you don't like it move to another plan which isn't managed or isp.

Well, if you read through the Terms and Conditions, and the Consumers Act, you'd see that Telecom have in fact breached BOTH. They've done it quite sneakily, but they've managed to do it nonetheless.

Managed, yes - I agree that it should be. Managed so that it's almost unusuable in every way? NO.

There is a difference between managing traffic and putting an artificial cap on all http traffic 24/7 which would be in breach of their T&C.

My point exactly, nzpossum... but we have no PROOF as such that this is indeed an artifical cap or
just Telecom's shoddy technical support team not being able to fix something which is actually
broken.

4DDave: I don't get it. If you people dislike Telecoms service so much, then why keep giving them your money.

I mean if you take your car to a mechanic and he gave you poor service, would you go back next month and give him more of your money?

Even more reasons to leave them if there not honouring their terms and conditions, poor customer service and so forth.

Having beem a small business owner myself in the past the worst thing for me was to loose a customer. Meant less money and expansion for my business.

There's plenty of ISP's in New Zealand. Get NDSL you can move your phone, calls and internet over to another company.

I can understand having a bit of a moan in a forum about bad service. But keeping your business with said company that's giving such bad service seems foolish.

I would buy you a beer if this was a pub.  I have no idea why people complain here about Telecom when they could easily move or swap ISPs.

If you feel that way take Telecom on through the official channels.

My http is currently going at around 500KB/s for some reason. Hope this isn't temporary.

I don't think anyone on here is complaining they can't download 100s of GB and get 2MB/s download speeds on everything. I don't care if torrents or RS are slow (even though torrents are not exactly going slow), All I want is to be able to browse the web, stream video and download via http at reasonable speeds. Right now that is impossible.

It makes no sense that http is so slow and torrents can still run at decent speeds.

OKay.... Okay. Now I am really angry - I just phoned Telecom again this morning and... Guess what? They tell me that this problem should not be happening anymore, that it is resolved, and they are blaming ME and my end for it!!

This is just too much! They also tried to palm me off with another bloody plan, which I (quite firmly) declined.

When is this company going to take RESPONSIBILITY for their incabability to fix errors within their own domain? This is something which is affecting NOT JUST ME!

Effectively they haven't breeched the T&C's of the plan.

Lets review the points of interest of the Bigtime Plan.

  • Its Traffic managed, particulaly P2P Traffic. They could effectively manage it down to 33.6k modem speeds and still be within the terms of the plan.

  • There is no guarantee's of transfer speeds at all. NZ ISP's Don't guarantee Connection Speeds.

  • Plan is stated as being Fullspeed within the capablity of your line.

  • You agreed to the Traffic management when you signed up for the plan. You have the right to change plans once free of charge per month if you aren't happy with the speed.

Your only real come back against Telecom would be possibly that the connection isn't suited for the purpose that it was advertised or provided. Good luck in proving that one.

Telecom has stated that you can have unmetered all you can eat bandwidth in return for traffic management, you are paying $60 for that service. Thats $20 cheaper than the 40Gb plan without traffic management. They tell you when you sign up for the plan, "That the plan is Traffic managed and is not suitable for everyone."

You can either have Full unrestricted speed and pay for bandwidth or managed speed(based on Network load) and unrestricted bandwidth, You can't have both on this plan. If you believe you have a fault, then ring 120 or what ever it is and log it as a fault and see what comes back.

I'm afriad, I can't see how or where they have breeched the T&C's?
