If you have a master filter yuu will have a dedicated xDSL jackpoint and your modem will only work from this jackpoint.

plambrechtsen: To be honest I am surprised that Chorus let the service order go through without having a tech come and visit and install a Master Filter. I was fairly sure that Chorus have changed their rules and now mandate a Master Filter on all VDSL installs.

A Master Filter really is mandatory on all xDSL (ADSL & VDSL) lines in my personal view.

It's not a requirement. If during the pre-qual the line is shown to be outside spec (higher than 10.8dB attn) they'll reject the order. But there is no wiring requirement in the order process (for churning existing ADSL to VDSL or doing a new VDSL connection on an existing non-active line).

We strongly recommend a Master Splitter installation unless the client is going onto Naked VDSL and there is only one jack point phone services terminate too. We've had customers opt to get their own tech (or DIY run their own cables from modem to demarc).

Damager: Experts please check my stats below. Just connected VDSL with Full Flavour Media. I'm about 70 metres from the local cabinet, and always had good ADSL2 connectivity.

Now connected to VDSL tonight. No master splitter... yet. But decided I'd check to see how i went without the master splitter firstly.

Thanks for the chance to have VDSL FFM :-) Waited for Telecom but yeah..

Yes I was recommended to have a master splitter installed, however I did insist on holding off for now, because I was reasonably confident of good performance first up. I'm no expert but have always enjoyed excellent adsl/2+ with Telecom.

From the stats, how much room is there for improvement. Noise levels good/bad?? I just want to get a good idea of the current performance based on the stats above.. someone look at my numbers, and decrypt them :-)

Would love to see a report out of spm. As it seems unusual that you wouldn't need one for VDSL.

I'd suggest posting your stats into the VDSL performance & tuning thread. Feel free to open a support ticket with us in a week and we'll see if there is anything further we can do from our end.

A few years ago I asked the telecom contractor to disconnect the other jack points because I had 2 lines. One line was dedicated for dial up.. ahhhhhhh the good old days. He said he'd tidied up the lines and when I eventually got adsl. Performance has always been excellent.

Thanks FFM. I'll send one through next week. I'll put the connection through its paces. Seems to be going well at the moment.

Looks good below as per SamF in the Snap forum, but will definitely get a master splitter in the near future to utilise as much as possible from my connection. $150+ is on the steep side, so holding off until I have some extra funds.

SNR Margin: 12.3db currently (normal)
Attenuation: 0db (VERY good if this is accurate, but you'd have to be basically living on top of the cabinet for this to be true!)
Rate: Downstream: 38.8mbit (not bad, but if your attenuation is accurate I'd expect higher than that), Upstream: 10.3mbit (normal)
Delay: 8ms (normal for this DLM profile: DLM-6)
INP: 2 (normal for DLM-6)
RS Uncorrectable Errors: 0 (Very good, but it's early days yet)

Overall, it looks like you may have a pretty good line there! I would put a master splitter in or if you're 'naked' simply disconnect all unused jack points at the original incoming connect point. VDSL is much more fussy about this kind of thing than ADSL.

If you do that you're HIGHLY likely to be put on a 17a profile very quickly.

One odd thing I did notice was your modem's reported 'downstream attainable rate', which it listed as 42mbit. This is strange because it should read 70mbit, which is standard across the board. It may not mean anything however.
