I'm still without service in Chch. Tried a restart of the device but no luck yet. Any further word from Telecom? I'm a corporate customer and am not too impressed without having any official word from our Account Manager.

I crash started my phone and it still seems flaky here in AshVegas - 2 out of 5 calls I made got a Connection Error. At least we did hear something from our Gen-i Account Manager.

Just got this from our local Orb manager:

Further to the below,  Services are slowly being restored now with traffic management occurring, which means that some calls and texts connect and some don’t as traffic is managed as each site is brought back online.

At this point I have not been given a ETA for full restore of services.

Once again my apologies.

2:30pm and I'm still offline in Wellington. I've got cell signal but no HSDPA, can't make/receive calls though although a text sent at 2:05 came through about 3 minutes ago.

Current update on Telecom's fault site:

We are currently experiencing some issues with our XT Mobile network which may mean customers South of Taupo, (including all of the South Island) are having problems using Mobile services. This may include making/receiving calls, sending/receiving text messages and using Mobile Broadband services. We apologise for the inconvenience this is causing. Our technicians have identified the problem and we expect full service to be restored very shortly. We will continue to update this message as we learn more. This message was updated Wednesday 27th Jan @ 13:59

First SMS when it came alive was that twitter update, lol.

I just keep a backup phone though I really need to figure out how to make 2talk "feign" my caller ID.

No - that doesn't work -  so obviously not restored.

s.joseph: out of curiosity is anyone thinking of changing carriers after this?

If I were private Telecom user I would be thinking of swapping, but we (the company I work for) go through Telecom for all of our land-lines, IT Support through Gen-i - so it's not an easy shift.

However, seeing as I am the person who upgrades our company's cellphones as they come off term, and our local Orb and Gen-i reps have been pushing to get the balance of our mobiles onto XT - I can definitively say that I will be putting this off for as long as possible. With all the IT dramas I have to put up with I certainly don't need cell phones not working added to the list.

And the fact that I haven't even heard from our rep is not good at all.

The problem with changing networks is having to buy a new phone if 3G data is a requirement.
