ianajmes: Question about the modem. I have set up the supplied vdsl and is running fine on adsl, my vdsl install is due tomorrow morning. Are there certain settings in the modem i have to do for this or is this done by tech? All i have done so far is set my home network up ( changed network name).

Nope - you're all set. Chorus should check it connects when they install the filter.

maoriboy: Got called by Telecom today regarding my application for VDSL.....and no good :-(. They said my location was too far away to get a good enough signal. Really sad as was looking forward to something faster than my current setup, and fibre optic is not due in my area till 2016! I'm one sad Palmerston Northian lol

Ah that's a shame! At least they attempted it for you! Fibre couldn't come sooner hah (I'm 2019 for Fibre)

Und3f: Hi Guys,Got the VDSL socket installed by Chorus yesterday.Broadband light is solid Green on the modem but no sign of light for internet. The modem did try to connect and ended up with an error "Concentrator not reachable"It's so close getting the VDSL yet so far :) I don't know why the technician didn't stay and actually make sure it's working :( <Snip>

Have you been in touch with us on 0800225598 and logged a fault? Else might be worth flicking Wheelbarrow01 a private message to see if he has any ideas, I think he's gone home for the day though. Sounds like we've got a failed install so if we log a fault they should be able to get onto it quickly - but just making sure, you've checked everything over and rebooted the modem too?

Thanks! Im happy to give most things a go but messing with modems makes me nervous!  and way to go with your multitasking, 3 replies in one hit, you need a pay rise for your efforts here.

Yep, done all the basic diagnostic and log the fault. Just waiting game now :)

Hopefully a Chorus Tech will get in contact soon. Telecom level 2 can't do much as they can't even ping the modem.

No worries, a few people have dabbled right into the advanced CLI features before the install :) Get it setup how you like it and when Chorus flicks the switch to put you over to VDSL it will reconnect with the new speeds! I'm also a Geekzone Ninja with most of my replies hah

Sounds like they've loaded the incorrect profile onto the DSLAM port causing it to not authenticate like you've said, if this is the case it's a rather simple fix to get it to authenticate again. Hope you're up and running soon!

Just got home - Restarted modem and woallah! Solid green light and running.

24 hours turnaround on issue was very impressive Telecom :)

Thanks Pika Pika for replying all the queries.

Hey all, question: Chorus tech had issues with installation in my house yesterday and hasn't actually created a clean filtered connection to new port - the old phone jack on other side of room is still on the same "line". He said he's filtered off everything else though. Initial modem connection stats were ~21 up/9 down - if I achieve that real world it's just acceptable to me. But if after 10 days my speeds stay below that (speedtests currently ranging between 17-20 down) can I request Telecom resend a Chorus tech to better wire the house? No particular criticism of tech as the phone lines were all over place and he wanted to see if it would work fine as he'd managed it...

Welp, VDSL install happened today as scheduled. With ADSL2+, was syncing at ~19Mbps down ~1Mbps up, attaining real-world speeds of pretty close to that. Now with VDSL2, syncing at 44Mbps down / 10Mbps up, and Telecom's speed test reporting 41.1Mbps down 9.3Mbps up, so pretty good. Not impressed with the clunky, featureless web GUI on the TG589vn, but it's only needed for it's modem so hey ;)

This is the correct install, VDSL is a vastly different sort of product, they install a master filter which separates the VDSL port from the rest of the lines in the house and VDSL really depends on quite a few factors especially how far you are from the exchange. Wait 10 days for DLM to do it's thing then phone up of you think the speeds are not right, but 20mbit down, 9mbit up indicates one of the first stepping profiles, it could only improve from there.

Glad it's all up and running! Enjoy your shiny new VDSL connection :)

These modems are designed for the non-technical minded people out there, there are some CLI commands which turn it into a rather powerful modem (if you search this forum you'll find people have posted them as workarounds) but in reality, it's a business-grade modem with it's web interface designed towards the general consumer :) - Other way of getting more features is shoving it into bridge mode and using a better router if you think that'll suit you better. But apart from that, great speeds :)

Installed - synced at around 23/10 - looks like DLM-6.

Will see how speed goes next few weeks.

Pulinski: Now that I am bridged (TG589vn v2 > PPPoE > ASUS RT-AC66U)
How do I view the modem stats?

With my Draytek I just entered the IP address of the modem. Entering the IP of this modem does not result in a connection to the modem.

Cheers.

Leave Wi-Fi turned on and you can access the Technicolor that way - you'll need to change Wi-Fi networks obviously.

My install was done yesterday afternoon but my modem is showing up-time of 3 hours on the DSL link. And now the upload speed is a wee bit higher. Is this DLM doing it's thing? Does the DLM cause the DSL link to reset?
