mrhaboobi: Any way to turn the light off in the front. Wanting to use the mesh/modem In a bedroom space and the light distracting ?
I have also just put a small piece of insulation tape over the light of our MESH unit in our bedroom - works perfectly!
I have not found a way to independently control the Mesh unit when it is part of the Smart modem network - any attempt to login to the IP directly just redirects me to the Smart Modem config page.

That's by design.

I have a Smart Modem on the way to replace my HG659b. Now I'm just wondering if I switch from using my Unifi AC Lite and get a Spark Mesh instead. Any experience with Unifi vs the Spark Mesh? Used as an AP with ethernet connection to the modem.
Dochart: Do these routers support full cone nat like the previous Huawei HG659b did?
are you looking for loopback/pinhole nat?

the Smart Mesh unit's on paper have twice as good wifi, which would certainly help in peak load.
Personally i use it for my wifi over my E400s (which are basically the equivalent to the AC Lite) but i do still run the E400s for my extra VLAN's

Thanks hio77. I've ordered a Smart Mesh unit. I'll test and if it works well I'll probably sell my AC Lite.
Any advantage to keeping it connected by ethernet (ie, access point mode)?

As above, if you can i'd highly recommend ethernet backhaul.
that's not to say anything bad about wireless, just allows it to show it's full potential rather than also be hampered by backhauling.
I've got a pretty average sized flat, so would ideally expect a single modem will do it, but the ONT is at one end of the property. My 'Office' is down stairs at the other end Being down stairs is basically a converted workshop at some stage in the life of the place, the floor is all lined with insulation etc so it really doesn't let the 5ghz signal through very well.
I just have a mesh unit sitting on my desk, gives me 600mbit of real throughput for anything i do down here and actually happens to give an extra 200mbit throughput in the bedroom upstairs.
Recently i needed to do a bit of testing with the wireless backhaul too, and then i realized. what bugs me the most about my setup is when i drive into the garage, devices latch onto 2.4ghz.
so went and stuck another mesh node right up in the corner, must be about 50M with Iron and two Brick walls between my desk and the mesh unit, so it's on the edge of where the mesh backhaul works well for but honestly... it's perfect... (this is also perfect to keep devices from latching onto this AP and having an unideal path from the house)
full 5ghz coverage across all the property, since it's a proper mesh it's not reliant on devices having to roam

Not many devices on the wifi tonight, but just as an example.
Please ignore the name of one of my units, it's a pre-production unit
Also let's be honest... if i'm not getting 250mbit on my phone, i feel like my connection is too slow... so I've got slightly excessive expectations :)
