I only have the smart modem without the mesh, and did have the DHCP lease problem. I have not noticed DHCP problems since I turned off band steering - probably two weeks ago. This does not mean that much on its own as it is as likely to be coincidence as anything.

I turned off band steering yesterday and will see in a couple of weeks whether that makes any difference. For me wired clients have never had DHCP issues so fingers crossed this will help. As an FYI as soon as a turned band steering off my Mac book renewed its lease no problem which it hasn’t been able to for a couple of days despite a router restart.

It’s only 2 weeks but it’s the best run I’ve had with this kit all year and seems consistent to what @nzmatt mentioned.

I’ll let people know if issues crop up again but feels like bandsteering is part of the problem.

that aligns with a suspicion we have been working on.

I'm actually only able to show the issue on one device now, so we are making progress with a few tweaks.

I'm also very keen for the capability to remotely capture the logging I currently have running on mine, would help in situations like yours as each time it happens i'm able to tell exactly what was going on, Did it try doing a bandsteering, a roam event, what was it intending to do, what was the outcome etc.

It's not the sort of log i'd want the device to always capture though. It's Very Verbose which would kill the memory if it was stored.

I had a drop out on Friday that did not reconnect automatically, when I manually connected had no problems. Apart from that, no other problems (I have noticed) since turning off band steering.

lookout: Well, the new modem arrived. First thing I noticed was how good the wireless range is. Also, it’s faster! Wired and wireless my VDSL speeds are 65Mbps down and 20Mbps up (around 5Mbps faster than what I was getting on my hg659). so yeah, happy camper. Smart mesh is on its way so I may retire my AC Lite.

If you weren’t able to get 65 down / 20 up out of an AC Lite it was probably configured wrong...

I am asking questions along these lines.

The thing to remember though is this isn't impacting most users.
So just having logs of all the number of these devices out there likely will be more of a hindrance than a benefit.

Also having logs isn't always beneficial. For example. The dhcp logs that seem to indicate a problem doesn't actually appear to relate to the issue itself. But as that's all we as end users see we jump to a conclusion that that's the fault.

This modem may be new for spark. But the base device is whitelabled by a few providers around the world very scuessfully.

Read through some of the recent posts to see if anyone has a similar issue to what I’m seeing.

A friend is on Spark fibre with the smart modem and is getting wifi ‘dropouts’ at certain times in the day, usually during the evening. The symptoms are most apparent in things like facetime where video will freeze for 10-15s before returning for 3-5s and then freezing again for another 10-15s. Web pages and content for apps are also slowed, taking on average 5s before loading.

The setup is default in the very sense of the word, no other networking devices except the smart modem. Wired ethernet devices have no issues whatsoever but to get the wifi working again the modem gets restarted before inevitably getting the issue again a few days later.

I haven’t tried anything yet but it seems like the disabling band steering will be the first thing to try. If there’s other things in the logs that I can find I’ll report back with them.

I can confirm that the apparent dropping of DHCP leases may be a red herring. My iPhone X has been losing Wifi periodically whilst staying next to the Smart Mesh, and the system log confirms that it is repeatedly gaining and losing DHCP lease. When I substitute the ER-X as the router and disable the DHCP and NAT on the Smart system it continues to drop off and reconnect to the wifi.

In the last week we have noticed a significant increase in the number of dropouts. Band steering is off, signal is strong - dropouts happening in the same room as the modem as well in in the next room (~10meters and one wall), happening to multiple devices. The PS4 is one of the weakest signals, and does not appear to be having a problem (16yo would let me know, I am guessing it would not be a subtle, easily missed message…. :) )

Apple devices have a history of favoring their own little non standard style, so there could be something there..

Not something I personally have all that much experience with, Linux, Andriod and Windows for me...

Regarding the SSDP/UPnP Search issue with the mesh unit, frustratingly it sometimes allows the packets through. Will the fix be rolled out soon, or are they waiting to solve the disconnects issue first?
