sbiddle: VDSL2 is a commercial offering (rather than regulated like ADSL/ADSL2+) but is delivered with virtually identical terms to the regulated UBA offering.

Actually they have moved it under the STD (in the same way as they did with EUBA0) so all the old min.speed stuff they put in to keep it commercial has been taken out.

The Chorus maps say I can only get ADSL2, but the Telecom site will let me order their Ultra VDSL

Anyone else seen this happen?

I have, at-least 10 times today haha. Flick me a PM with your address and I'll check.

with the install fee, will they install the jackpoint anywhere I want in my house?

My current proprty has a master filter with modem jack point in the hallway, which is a dumb place for it to be (the old occupeirs had it put there I guess).
will the $99 fee cover them moving the jack point to a different, more suitable spot in my house - like behind the TV?

If you ask them nicely then yes they will, they should install the VDSL jack where you need it to avoid use of extension leads.

Wounded,

Rang up to order it - chap on the phone said their system does not have my address in for VDSL, even though Chorus SAT says it is.

Something about Chorus not updating it for telecom customers? Sounded plausible - because their website says no for Telecom, I cant get it yet.

:(

Great stuff, booked!  The "no disconnection for fibre transfer" closed the deal for me, given UFB will be available at my place within 9 months...

That's very suboptimal! Don't worry, I'm in the same boat here.

lokhor: I have a couple of questions as I'm very interested in VDSL and my area doesn't even have a date scheduled for UFB:

  1. I am currently on a 12 month homeline+adsl2 contract with Telecom, would I get penalised for getting VSDL on a new contract or would it just extend it another 12 months?
  2. I currently get sync speeds of ~13mbps down and I live in Stokes Valley, is there any way to tell what sort of speed I'd get on VSDL?
  3. Do I need to get a master splitter installed at the same time and how much would that cost?
Cheers

There is no penalty for upgrading from ADSL to VDSL - your old contract is cancelled without penalty and you begin a new 12 month contract on the day your VDSL is installed.

If you PM your address to me I can run a prequal to get an indicative speed for VDSL - this is a guide only.

To have Telecom Ultra VDSL you MUST have a master splitter installed. This is included in the $99 VDSL connection fee for existing ADSL customers.

The views expressed by me are not necessarily those of my employer Chorus NZ Ltd

In my case I am currently in the 3rd of 3 flats. Would this mean they would have to run cable down to the back flat and into the flat?

Will it involve digging up the ground anywhere as last time the guy who owned the property had a cable installed he got grumpy as left it in a mess.

Do you already have ADSL? If so, it will come in over the same copper.

UFB (when you get it in your area) will need a cable run to your flat.
