from Twitter:

As the n/w is coming back up, some peps are experiencing congestion on sites.  If you can't get thru 1st time please give it another go. ^NF

There must still be issues as I was on a call just now that got dropped. Sigh.

Totally unacceptable Telecom!

The loss of income to a large number of Kiwi businesses outside of Auckland today is crazy. I for one run my business from my mobile and I have no idea on how much business has gone elsewhere....
Quite frankly it is time for Telco 2 infrastructure as now being done in the UK and elsewhere.

I am mad about this, can you tell??

What i forgot to say is well done to the countless people at coal face dealing with crap from customers today and fixing the issues!

bbman: Totally unacceptable Telecom!

The loss of income to a large number of Kiwi businesses outside of Auckland today is crazy. I for one run my business from my mobile and I have no idea on how much business has gone elsewhere.... I will demand compensation and Like most effected businesses, deserve it due to the incompetence of this network

This is what needs to happen from a non technical point of view and fast!

1. Head of mobile - DCM
2. Head of marketing - DCM
3. Paul Reynolds - bonus of millions returned and used as compensation for this and on going outages
4. Investment - replace the equipment in CHCH, install multiple RNC to provide localized infrastructure similar to Vodafones roll out
5. admit they where wrong and should have gone with Ericsson who have built multiple 850mhz and other WCDMA networks
6. Spend large and work there butts off to restore customer, dealer and retail confidence in their network

Quite frankly it is time for Telco 2 infrastructure as now being done in the UK and elsewhere.

Telecom fan club keep quiet, I for one am a Telecom fan boy but this is beyond a joke and there is no excuse and accountability is now required and that means head of depts lose there jobs and the CEO takes it on the chin!

I am mad about this, can you tell??

Good luck with that. I'm sure you signed a contract with telecom that states they are not responsible for any loss of income if the service was to fail or something to that effect.

Anyone who relies on a mobile service to run their business is asking for trouble. You should have a landline or a second mobile provider. A mobile network is a best effort service and like anything can suffer from faults and outages etc. Always have a backup.

Are you serious???  I know the contract, I sold it for 12 +years, why on earth do business people buy mobiles???? TO BE MOBILE with their business. I accept that mobile is best effort, XT is hardly best effort right now is it?

To say to a rep in the field that you need a back up of landline or even another carriers phone when the CDMA phone or Vodafone network was robust and vary rarely went down is crazy. Note I am not saying CDMA or Vodafone did not have problems, just a considerably more UP time!

I am afraid I caused it - you see I am trying to download a 190MB file from Amazon AWS, and my TelstraClear cable connection failed while doing it. Then I tried downloading the same file while using my Sierra Wireless, and my laptop went to sleep - when I started it again the XT connection didn't come back...

Dropping calls all after noon......

I have been speaking on a landline to my friends in dealer world, the customers that can reach them are pissed, and talking shifting to Vodafone.

Telecom might have a negative customer christmas period with all of this happening...

Again HEAD OF MOBILE DONT COME MONDAY accountability time

Actually Mauricio it may have been our fault here in New Plymouth. A few people at my work place were getting their work mobiles transferred over from the old cdma service to XT today including myself and that was when the trouble started lol

Sorry guys, it was my fault.

I tried to put my XT sim into my old HTC Titan, and had to force it in for some reason.. Turned it on, and the sim caught fire, therefore shorting the entire XT network, then realised I'd put the sim into the microSD slot.

Mah bad.. won't do it again.
