Ragnor: Haven't seen any issue with any of those sites at home on Telecom ADSL.

Checked with Firefox's firebug net panel and httpfox, didn't see any unusual latency or delay on any of the http requests.

Might be specific to a particular region in NZ, those going via a certain regional gateway etc?

That was just all the sites reported in this thread as having issues. Im only getting issues with wikipedia myself.

I'm having problems reaching engadget.com and tuaw.com tonight, this seems to happen every few days recently. On Telecom broadband using Telecom DNS.

wikipedia and endgadget are ultra slow for me, about a minute to load each page.

Facebook photos only load about 50% of the time too, they often result in a broken image link.

I'm using Telecom DNS.

I'm with Telecom (in Auckland) and having trouble reaching wikipedia (by IP or by domain name); it's either unusably slow or the connection is reset, and I get 504's on some images. This issue is not a regular occurrence for me, and my connection is usually fine in most respects. Facebook looked fine, but engadget is very slow.

Reconnecting (re-establishing PPPoE anyway) to get a new IP seems to have "fixed" the issue, but I think Telecom should consider fixing whatever broken sh1t of theirs is causing these problems.

yea wiki not working for me i get the "This webpage is not available" in chrome.
I can ping and tracert www.wikipedia.org but just wont display anything.

You guys may find this useful (ssl mirror of wikipedia):

It seems that accessing anything over https bypasses the broken proxy (well, yeah, of course it would). This includes Facebook, and a bunch of other sites. If you use Firefox there's a useful extension distributed by the EFF called HTTPS Everywhere (http://www.eff.org/https-everywhere) which will do URL rewriting and send you to the SSL equivalent for a site when you navigate to it, provided such a thing exists.

The downsides are that often images are still pointing to the non-ssl servers, so they'll still have problems. And of course you'll have to use Firefox .. if only Chrome would add support for URL rewriting!

wikipedia doesn't load for me on telecom broadband. But when i use a proxy at https://www.legendbypass.info I can access wikipedia perfectly. So something is up with telecom.

You are correct. HTTPS would bypass the problem. I couldn't view http://www.microsoft.com but I could view https://www.microsoft.com (Well, I moved away from Telecom now)

It seems a lot others do have the same issue as I did have before. Funny that Telecom did not consider my comment even I was talking to their Tier-2 support.

Aren't we paying for IP traffic? We should be able to go direct. Tonight I was having trouble loading some pages at Harvey Norman's website and got this page instead:

I am so sick of this, if I had a chance I would choose another ISP.

It started the first time December 2009 where all international traffic was down and especially the slow loading just never really goes away. I raised several calls with the helpdesk even talked to Tier2 once, but they dont acknowledge the issue. They keep offering and sending me new routers but it doesnt help. My router is just fine and I am running out of space to store them. I stopped raising calls with them.

What pisses me of is we have Telecom at work and all the sites I have trouble with at home are loading fast at work. So it does work, Telecom just decides to punish privat customers with their proxy caching "solution".

The sites that keep being slow have been mentioned before:

engadget.com
arstechnica.com
en.wikipedia.org
even youtube and other streaming sites

Whoever decides what is getting cached doesnt seem to like gadgets...

Telecom's connection was good before their implemented the cache thing and is still good and reliable if you don't use it for HTTP taffic.
