flynkiwi: Thanks Michael, will have to have a dig in the garden under the power box. The chorus tech seemed to think that ETP enclosures were only really installed from the late 80's and our house is early 80's.

In older houses it just arrives from either under the house or into the ceiling space and makes it straight to the "master" jack, I would first rip the top off all the jacks points and see if you can see the one with the black Polyethelyne sheathed drop cable. Sometimes it transitions from the drop cable to indoor cable either in the ceiling or under the floor (depending on overhead or underground drop) so you also may need to get in the roof or under floor and see what you can find.

Is the required master splitter any different from an ADSL splitter? Can I supply my own modem (I have a spare Telecom business Pace modem) rather than pay for an install & contract?

Oh and is VDSL available from the exchange? Or cabinet only?

Newer splitters are suitable for ADSL2/VDSL2, so would be OK, but the older style are no good for VDSL.

The install fee is for all customers regardless of if they've got a master filter, or VDSL modem :) so you'll get another VDSL modem (which is better than the Pace modem IMO)

kinda bummed I'm only syncing at 22Mb - what a winger.

Is there an easy way to estimate distance from cabinet? Just wanting to see if there is anything else I should be checking.

WayneS: Sounds as though they are still having some teething troubles with VDSL ...

michaelmurfy: Call up 0800225598 and get them to check it, it might involve them coming out to check everything, sometimes failed installs happen but don't worry, the chaps there will try to get something sorted. VDSL as a product has been around from other ISP's for a wee while now but it's not until now a major ISP has taken it on their chins and actually done it to a mass amount of people all at once. Wayne, you might have something else dodgy with your installed, it could simply be the line card or even how the master filter is installed in the house, best call the number and get them to investigate it for you....

Installer ran new cable (house 60's) to replace old black cable. VDSL modem reasonable connection. Installer talked about issue in the cabinet.
But had a couple of calls this morning from Telecom checking to see how my VDSL was going. Apparently the works order showed that all was installed okay. Seems to lack of communication between Chorus & TC..
Awaiting further ...

AKLWestie:
Problem is that Chorus has not sign off the job so I got my VDSL2 "line", but the Telecom supplied VDSL2 modem cannot logon using PPPoE (error message was "Concentrator not reachable").  Called 0800 22 55 98 and they said I need to wait till 10am tomorrow to be connected (I am tethering my 3G mobile connection now).

Is this normal?

Very good speeds! It's a shame you missed out my bulk post to everyone heh. This can be normal in some cases and remember, VDSL is still a rather new product so we're finetuning it as we go but it can sometimes take up-to 24/48hrs for Chorus to sign off on the job and our system to finish processing the provisioning order, but just goes to show how a master filter can also help out with your standard ADSL connection :) get some sleep and come back to it in the morning, at-least it's not going to be out for a couple of days!

Still no internet for me, same error.  Just called 0800 22 55 98 and spoken with a number of people from different teams and now they will check with Chorus.

I am not happy...

By the sounds of your problem this is something that would have happened with any provider you chose, could you please PM me your landline number, contact number and address and I'll get somebody to look at it for you.

Got VDSL connected today, speed seems to be the same as my old connection :(

Bandwidth (Up/Down) [kbps/kbps]: 1,547 / 14,735

Chorus guy spoke to someone and said maybe I am too far away from the exchange. Anything else I can do?
