Talkiet:hydroksyde: [snip] Now we're literally drowning in cisco spares...
Pics, or did you mean "figuratively"? :-)

michaelmurfy:trig42: Thanks Michael, have replied to your PM.
Can you tell me what gear Telecom are using (CPE)? And it looks like a master splitter is mandatory - good!

It's a Thompson TG589vn, they're pretty good routers.

Hi Mike, just ordered telecom VDSL and was wondering if is possible to turn the radio off on the router and use it as a modem only as I already have a decent router that has a lot of features I like (Belkin Playmax).
Sorry to bug you on your day off but the Philipinas in the call center didn't know what I was talking about!
Regards
Nick Taylor

lchiu7: I had VDSL installed on Friday. I was told I should get 30/10 but I am currently getting speedtest all over the range.
Examples of 3 run one after the other. I am using the modem in bridge mode and this is a wired connection.
Is this a settling in period thing since at the beginning I saw 29/9 and I have seen 30/9.
Inphinity: Hrmm, I am having trouble getting bridging to work between the TG589 and my DSL-N55U. The N55U is failing to obtain a WAN IP. I can get it working withe the TG set up normally as a router, and forward traffic from the N55U through the TG, but obviously not ideal. Any thoughts? The TG appears to go into bridge mode OK - at least, it shows its mode as Bridge, but I set the N55U to PPPoE and obtain WAN IP automatically, and it fails to get IP. Do I need to specify the concentrator name or anything?

Are you on ADSL2+ or VDSL2 now? The TG589vn can only do bridging on VDSL2.

morrisk: Looking for help to login to Technicolor modem to access stats
Modem is bridged to Airport Timecapsule as the router and all works well. Happy with speeds up and down.
However I cannot access the modem using the address 192.168.1.254.
I can see the wireless network of the modem TELECOM971A55 but cannot connect to it. I am running OSX Mountain Lion. This is the way I would want to concoct as the modem and router are under the stairs and using an ethernet connection is not very convenient.
I have also tried directing connecting the modem via ethernet cable to my computer and also the router directly to my computer and tried to access the address 192.168.1.254 but again just get message in Safari server not found.
Any ideas appreciated

That is the nature of speedtest.net. What really matters is the sync speed of the Technicolor modem.
For speedtest, Use the Vodafone and Orcon speedtest servers -- they are the most consistent.
I have a sync speed of 48.3mbps and get consistent speedtest results over 40mbps with Vodafone and Orcon speedtest servers.

I'm probably telling you how to suck eggs here, but I take it you've configured it for ethernet WAN? - http://vip.asus.com/forum/view.aspx?board_id=11&model=DSL-N55U&id=20130121031718225&page=1&SLanguage=en-us
I have a DSL-N55U, but it's no longer my router, it's just working as an AP now...

Nope, use our speedtest server please.

I just got this on my VDSL line in Chch
And my VDSL Sync is 10357 up / 43983 down.
Our speedtest server is (currently) in Auckland and I am in Christchurch, hence the latency. Clearly though, latency is not affecting throughput at all.
