AirSim:

Spark is apparently looking to trial Wifi Calling early this year, so hopefully we’ll see something soon.

{Moderator edit, screenshot of herald premium article removed.}

It's long past time for more general coverage by other reporters. Someone should follow up the early in 2022 comment in Chris Keall's article.

My wife's work around is linking her iphone to her ipad. That allows her to leave the phone in a spot that gets reception.

The response from Skinny when I asked was that they do not know when VoWiFi will be available.

Which could be weeks months if ever.  Spark won't even say if there is going to be a new cell  site going into an area due to "security" concerns.

@old3eyes This is not rocket science!

If someone wants WiFi calling that bad then they pick a mobile carrier that offers it! Simple as that why do people find this sooooo difficult to understand

Nothing is forcing SparkNZ to offer WiFi calling they do not have to it is a business decision

I guess that some people with bad coverage would like these features on their carrier of choice rather than being forced to change.  Yes I do have a 2D second SIM in my phone  with WiFi calling just in case there is no Spark/Skinny  coverage at home from time to time.

I've done the same with the cheapest Kogan plan, and it works well where neither carrier has good coverage and there is a WiFi connection available.  As old3eyes said, I would prefer to stay with Spark and not have to change just to get a feature that they do not offer.

It took long enough for VoLTE.

I'd like to see this at some point or a new cell tower I'm our subdivision. We are seemingly right on the fringe of the existing coverage and it's patchy indoors making calls. Not like we are out in the sticks, there's hundreds of homes here and hundreds more being built. Annoyingly I've got a good amount of data on my prepaid plan built up with data stack now that's great when out and about so I don't particularly want to change networks. We just call each other using what's app instead but it would be nice if normal phone calls were a bit more reliable. At least upgrading from a pixel 3 to an S22 I now get VOLTE.

Yes I'm in the same boat here in Morrinsville.  Patchy cell coverage  on all carriers though when I bought  our new Samsung A 52s (3 of them)   they seem to have better coverage than the old Motorola, Redmi  and Nokia ones.  I do also have a 2D SIM in my phone  as a backup for VoWiFi which works well.

Apparently a week or two ago VoWiFi worked for some people for one evening or so. Must be coming super soon then!

Thanx for the update. I'm hoping it arrives soon on Spark and Skinny.   I actually got a 2D sim  in my phone as well to test WiFi calling out on and it works well.

I'm willing to guess iPhone users will see this with the launch of iOS 16 in September unless they push a carrier update out earlier to enable it

Or maybe iOS 15.6 which is still in beta but isn’t too far away from public release.
