bot: I signed up for vdsl from telecom as soon as i heard it was released. but it has turned into a complete nightmare...
In other words, is it possible to have two wi-fi networks using the Thomson VDSL connection in some manner?

Yes, absolutely. You would just set the other device up as an Access Point only.
bot: I signed up for vdsl from telecom as soon as i heard it was released. but it has turned into a complete nightmare...
- it wasn't great just after the install about midday last tuesday (~10Mbps down, 0.3Mbps up)
- soon afterward it stopped working altogether. the router (technicolor tg589vn v2) reported the broadband connection was good but there was a PPPoE error (couldn't reach concentrator i think)
- i spent the better part of tuesday evening and wednesday morning trying to convince the level 1 support that no service at all was definitely not normal, even in the first 10 days
- i got a call during wednesday saying that a telecom system error was to blame and all should now be resolved
- after a hard restart of the router it did get an internet connection
- the router reported bandwidth as ~21Mbps down and ~9Mbps up
- frequent speedtests on several devices (with the connection isolated from other internal devices) show between 2.25-6Mbps down and 0.2-0.3Mbps up and ping latency had gone up from ~20ms to ~50ms
- the speedtest has a consistent pattern where download speed is quick for a few seconds before dropping away dramatically. upload is crap from outset of the test
- thats not great but should be usable, but when browsing the internet pages take ages to load and sometimes fail altogether
- i spoke to the complex issues team again on friday eventing to explain. they said i'm about 500m from the cabinet and have inexplicably high attenuation, so they agree somethings wrong and will send chorus again
- when speaking to them again this morning to report it had not improved (apart from latency which is now 11ms) i was told chorus had done something (possibly turned off interleaving?) and said its all normal
- apparently i need to capture speedtest, pathping and tracert tests for a couple of days to prove to chorus that all is *not* normal.
is there anyone out there with similar experience/any ideas on how to resolve it?
i am getting really sick of running speedtests, talking to support people and getting nowhere. not to mention the earache i am getting from the family for having stuffed up the previously quite reasonable broadband service...
thanks.

Wow! That response was quicker than I'd expected... thanks.
Would it need to be on another channel and would it have its own ID?
Or if this Q&A is going to become a nuisance, can you recommend a site where I might educate myself on the nuances?
Thanks again.

Can you paste the line stats from your TG589 please? Also, presumably you were on ADSL2 previously - I assume that was working finer and at decent speed?
