It sounds like you're on a FIPD connection of which can take up to 2 weeks to migrate, then pop through a VDSL order from then, hang in there tight!
I'm pretty impressed with what you were able to achieve on Dialup though!

pegi: I ordered my VDSL plan yesterday and waiting for confirmation from Chorus. Hope everything goes according the plan and I can expect good speeds after changing from ADSL2+ to VDSL.
I have relatively good speeds but streaming (from Europe servers) doesn't always work 100%. Don't know whether new VDSL would improve the streaming or not.

Here are my modem stats:

stitch: Here's another speedtest with modem stats -

This sounds very similar to my experience i.e. didn't work for a couple of days. Then it does work, but speedtest results are *much* lower than sync rate. I tried the Telecom speedtest but it fails with "Latency Test Error".

Interestingly I have problems with the first stage of speedtest getting stuck (when it does a ping check for the nearest server). If I manually select then I can get past that though.

Also, even though the speedtest should at least be usable I get slow/failed page loads when browsing, so its only borderline usable.

Last speedtest:

8ms latency;3.62Mbps Down;0.45Mbps Up

You've got an insane number of line errors there which leads me to believe you're too far from the cabinet / exchange to get an stable sync, as stated many times on this thread VDSL is far more sensitive to any form of line interference and when you start getting large numbers of transmission errors this will decrease speeds massively. Come to think of it this will be the same thing happening to stitch except with him I've asked for these, and he hasn't provided.

If you're not happy with VDSL - give it 10 days to see if it will improve then call up 0800225598 and get changed back to ADSL, but any form of xDSL is best effort so speeds are not guaranteed.

I ordered VDSL on the 22nd now have received my install date of the 2nd Aug. Pretty good considering the load they must have getting this done.

I'm hoping the technician will move my master splitter from it's current location which is now not the best place for it. We'll see.

It looks like Thomson still haven't learnt and are calculating their default wireless passwords by a simple algorithm against the SSID. As per the older Thomson units, this means that the default passwords are very insecure and easily obtainable by anyone within range with an internet-connected device.

If you are going to use the Thomson units, make sure you change the password and SSID!

I know for a fact that a huge number of the older units were in use with the defaults still set around the Welly CBD.

You'd have thought at very least it would be generated with something not publicly-visible by default as the seed. Still, I'm sure most people change all the settings anyway... right? :x

Nice sync rates! Are you getting many errors? My sync rates peaked at 10/67 but have dropped back to 10/62. Errors seem to have gone now, so yay.
