The Telecom site says that there will be software updates available to enable LTE on all "4G-ready" devices.

Which will presumably just be an APN update.

Not all all the actual devices need 4G / LTE enabled via a software update

Wade: My understanding from discussions on here was as per Nathan that all telecom supplied 4G handsets had the LTE bands locked out, my Nokia 920 definitely did and I am sure my HTC One did too however i cannot check as I have since flashed a different rom of which i know has the 4G bands enabled
\

Hrmmm, wasn't something I was aware of but when I look into that it is in fact a thing haha sorry for my foolishness

However:

Custom rom shouldn't be an issue as chances are the 4G bands will be enabled already

Telecom decided to disabled 4G on devices sold through their retail channels. I hope updates for devices already out there come fast - it would be a real shame if Telecom stuffed up on this one for their own hand.

Yes, but surely as it is a carrier specific issue telecom would be in the best position to advise when the required update is likely to be pushed out?

So I pre registered and Telecom have sent me an email to order a 4G sim. The only trouble is when I click on the link it takes me to an order page (where they have kindly pre-entered my 027 number) and asked me to select my 4G capable handset. However the HTC One isn't shown. My HTC One X which I'm sure isn't 4G capable is one of the sets shown.....
I guess all they are trying to achieve is that they want to send out the correct size sim, so will probably select the One X to get a micro-sim if it's not fixed in the near future.

This is all great, but what about Band 28 (700MHz) capable devices. Any ETA at all?

The 700 mhz band is yet to be auctioned to my knowledge so planning devices would be jumping the gun a bit

But wouldn't we see that phones sold in NZ would support the AP 700MHz band set. I'm fed up with phones that are carrier specific in the 3G space and want to avoid it with 4G devices.
