.. and just to clarify Spark VoLTE is live on all of our 4G network (all bands, all sectors, all carriers), as well as RCG sector/carriers.

My comments and remarks are not necessarily of my employer.

Dairyxox:

I've tried this on my iPhone XR. Enabled VoLTE option, waited 5 hours, restarted.

No VoLTE showing.

I'm in Tauranga and pretty sure spark was only 700mhz 4G only here, might that be a reason why?

Note - on an iPhone there is no specific VoLTE icon or indicator - you can check by making a call and the phone stays on 4G, or you can go to Settings, General, About - click on 'service provider' and it should show "IMS" if it's registered ok.

and btw - there is much more than L700 active in Tauranga! Most sites have atleast 2x with many upto 6x.

Thanks this is very helpful. I suspected my knowledge of Spark's setup here was way out of date.

Without a device that Lets you see the exact bands in use for CA (typically a rooted andriod - or some LG and samsungs have a menu) It's quite hard to see what the band is in-use.

Often you will be seeing only what the primary inuse band is.

One notable thing to report are coverage improvements when using VoLTE, eg:

I've got VoLTE enabled on both mine and wife's iphones, she gave me a call this evening while traveling through the Mt Vic tunnel in Wellington and it didn't miss a beat! Normally in 3G mode the call would of dropped by the time she got halfway through.

Real test I'm now keen to see if calls drop where Oriental Parade turns into Evans Bay Parade, heading to the airport soon as you go around that corner the call always drops.

You mean Spark 3G drops in the Mt Victoria tunnel? I'm pretty sure Spark ran a TV ad telling us how great their network was in specifically showed how their calls didn't drop in the tunnel (at the time VF did regularly)!

That's odd, I've had lots of calls while driving through there.

Me too. Never once had an issue. The bus tunnel handles calls fine, too

We've just tested the part of Oriental Bay Parade where it joins Evans Bay Parade and the call didn't skip a beat, we did get some jittery sound heading along Oriental Bay parade but at this stage I'm calling this a massive improvement over 850mhz 3G

By all carriers do you mean carrier frequencies rather than carriers like Skinny?

@Sundr0p You are best to have the SparkNZ approved firmware loaded onto the handset from Samsung NZ
