nitrotech: It would be good to sticky some info on DLM for everyone because the same questions come up again and again.
I started on DLM6 and got to DLM1 in a bit over 2 weeks.
During that time there was VERY little change in sync rate therefore speed.
The one thing that did change was the latency but only jumping from DLM2 to DLM1
The fact is that DLM will not dramatically improve your speed, but on DLM1 could improve your latency which offers some benefits for TCP.
If your speeds are slow on VDSL DLM is not your saviour - moving your house closer to the exchange/cabinet will however likely help.

Like the post here?
Duping it for Telecom and adding the Technicolor telnet info may help though.
Regardless, people still won't read and/or search and will keep asking the same questions.

Yes ive been following that thread but you can see at 135 pages and counting that people think DLM will improve their speed and the same questions get asked again and again - also DLM timeframe seems quite variable - people want to fix their connection if not on DLM1 in 10 days.
I think this is a case of too much information being dangerous. I wonder how many calls telecom (and others) get about users not being on DLM1.

mikenzb: Someone should make an Telecom VDSL Performance & Tuning only thread (the telecom modems) and the Snap VDSL thread should be for Fritzbox's only.

Point is that there is no tuning you can do - the speed will be what it will be - no amount of tuning is going to sort it.
As long as your attenuation is within spec then get on and enjoy the 'higher' speed life.

littleheaven: Goodness, this is what I get for not paying closer attention to the forums. I completely missed the fact VDSL was available now. I'm booked to have mine installed next week. Does the fact that Telecom have sent me a Chorus appointment indicate they've already performed the required tests and decided my line is good enough? Or could I still be refused? I am around 600m from the cabinet, if you follow the line of the road, however the cabinet is at the end of another road that cuts behind the house, and if the cable runs that way, and under the reserve at the back, then it would be closer to 400m.
Amosnz: I've been connected 5 days now, DLM is doing its thing.
Day 1: DLM6
Payload rate [Kbps]: 42855 10354
INP [DMT symbols]: 2.00 2.00
Delay [ms]: 8.00 8.00
Day 3: DLM4
Payload rate [Kbps]: 48282 10352
INP [DMT symbols]: 1.00 1.00
Delay [ms]: 8.00 8.00
Day 5: DLM2
Payload rate [Kbps]: 49192 10352
INP [DMT symbols]: 0.00 0.50
Delay [ms]: 8.00 8.00
Hopefully I'll move to DLM1 for the latency decrease, but without going to a 17a profile I've about tapped out this line.
plambrechtsen:Telecom would have done the prequal (pre qualification) based on your distance while you were talking with them on the phone and 400-600meters is right on the limit but you "should" be ok.
Typically the new and moves folks err on the side of "let's get it connected and see if they are ok" rather than the "lets not get it connected since they are right on the margins". I know of a few customers connected and they are around the 800-900meter mark. They don't get 40/10, but it's still a vast improvement over ADSL2+ (Normally around the 20-30/6-7 or so).

I recommend that thread for DLM im on the low end speed scale of vdsl2 like alot of others in this thread and its helped me out.... 150 pages worth the read and will help much.
