lukej: We can only hope doozy and the crew are fixing it. Do you reckon they will fix the previous usage, or should we go wild with downloading as much as we can?

Pass.. You go for gold and let me know how you get on!! :)

Cheers Doozy. You can go home and have a cold one now. Tell the boss I said it was okay.

Whole usage page has been offline since at least yesterday afternoon. My bandwidth rolls over tomorrow night, not sure if I can get away with downloading a >1GB demo off PSN or not without being charged for huge over-usage :(

BigHammer: I'll second that. The Usage Meter is looking healthier tonight too, at least for today. Historical usage not corrected, but today is what I would normally expect to see.

For myself, I checked this morning at 7.30 and it was showing as 1 GB. My own system stated 400 MB. The usage meter now shows 1.1 GB and my own usage showing 1.2 GB. It may be 'in line' for some, but it sure ain't recording the usage in real time. Seems more like estimating the day.

I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't believe Telecom's usage meter has ever been, or has claimed to be real time. Data flows into it in 'chunks' so for example if it's midday now then yesterdays stats would be full and correct, but today's may be up to date or a few hours behind. I'm basing this on my years of observation of Telecom's usage meter and comments in forums, not any actual inside knowledge of their systems. :)

It's not like say XNET's which is real time, but I can only imagine the data silos Telecom are pushing data around to for usage so imagine it's not a 'easy' problem to solve to guarantee real time stats.

doozy: I should clarify, the Big Time usage not showing is not directly related to the error usage with the other plans, I believe that will be fixed by the 19th.

Thanks for the feedback, and also for contributing to places like Geekzone, it's good to have visability into issues so (well for myself anyways) we can manage them for our clients without the hassle of logging tickets for known problems. :)

From memory Telecom claims it's anything up to 4 hours out. Pretty sure that's right, but the usage meter page is still offline so cannot confirm. There's no way it's real time.

Well, what I was trying to say is that the system isn't real time, yet it reported 100% more usage for that morning?? Bit weird, and then it seemed to not record anything for the rest of the day. Just thought I would share that.

Update on the Broadband usage page:

Broadband Usage Meter - Service Temporarily Unavailable 11/12/09, 2pm
This service remains unavailable due to a technical issue, which our technicians are working to restore as a matter of priority. At this time, we expect the Usage Meter to be fully restored during the week commencing Monday 14 December. An exact date is yet to be confirmed. During this time, we have put measures in place to ensure customers will not be disadvantaged by incorrect overage charges or slowed internet speeds, and will be communicating directly with affected customers to remedy any errors. We apologise for the inconvenience and thank you for your patience.

Hi guys, any impacted customer will get a letter from us with details, but I wanted to reassure you all going into the weekend what the deal is. People who have been throttled during the time the error has been occurring have been unthrottled and will remain so over the weekend, people who have gone into overage also need not worry, I'll be back with more details on how we'll credit those impacted Monday afternoon. Realise this is coming through as a drip feed but thought better to let you guys know this so you don't worry going into the weekend! I know some of the tech folk who are working on this read these forums too so thanks for all your hard work ;)

Hi - sorry if this has been answered above, but can you please confirm...

My Pro plan renews (I think) today (or yesterday) but of course I cannot verify without the meter. So, if I am wrong and I am now in excess of my 40GB, will I be charged for the excess? Or do I not have to worry? Thanks.

You've answered your own question by quoting the post from doozy. I'd take his post to mean that you are fairly safe.
