davidcole: Does anyone know what will happen with overage? Will there still be the choice like in the ADSL plans of slow down or data packs?
Lizard1977: I have a question for tomorrow's chat - Will Telecom add $10 to the plan prices for provincial areas like they currently do for ADSL plans?

The media release implies "no":
"Telecom CEO Retail Chris Quin says UFB is a national roll-out so it’s appropriate to have national pricing."

It's going to be exactly the same as current ADSL where you are slowed down to a certain speed, or pay overage. Not sure about data bumps, don't think that's part of the current offering from Telecom.

Lizard1977: Interesting plans. Not quite as competitive as Snap, but Snap don't currently service Palmerston North so the comparison isn't really fair. Kudos to Telecom for entering the market.

Lizard1977: Another question, more of a clarification, about the voice services. The press release stated: "For customers who take up Telecom Ultra Fibre, Telecom will retain their existing copper-based phone lines to service voice, monitored alarms, faxes, EFTPOS, SkyTV and medical alarms. Telecom is looking to introduce a voice over fibre product later this year with development well underway, which will open the opportunity to transition the other non-voice copper-based services to fibre. "
I'm assuming this means that the existing copper landline is retained and the phone plugs into the standard phone jack, but the new ONT is installed and provides the fibre service. Have I understood this correctly?
Also, if someone is on a current VoIP serrvice (e.g. Xnet Fusion), will there be a charge to "re-activate" the copper line when moving to Telecom's UFB service?
maverick: interesting isn't it, so by the looks of it they have no voice offering so must use existing copper so effectively maintaining 2 networks for a single customer, this has to be costing them on each customer.
Also how are they going to service UFB in Green fields where there is no copper .... the troll VGA is going to have a brain explosion over this

Talkiet:Athlonite: Here a question for them
I'd like to know just when will UFB be available in Tamatea Napier so that we can take advantage of these new UFB plans from Telecom NZ
Telecom aren't building UFB. That question needs to be directed to the LFC for that area which is Chorus.
Plug your address in here:
http://www.chorus.co.nz/maps
It looks to me like parts of Napier have it already but that Tamatea, while in the final coverage zone, isn't planned before 2017.
Cheers - N
