nzpossum: Not fixed on my end either, still maxing out at around 80Kb/s using multi threading. I think Telecom was probably lying when they said it was a technical error (wouldn't be the first time). The fact that they have recently installed new traffic management software as described in recent stuff.co.nz article says it all. Also the fact that traffic seems to be micro-managed with pin point precision is another sign it's no mistake. Sites like youtube are still blazing fast while others are extremely slow. I plan on calling Telecom myself sometime today and i encourage everybody to do the same. Lets these bastards know what you think of them.

yes please do ill do the same there fu*ken batty

YES!!!!!! Everyone let these bastards know what we think of them indeed! I am so fed up with this, I have NO problem with being 'limited" during peak hours, but not to a crawling unusable dialup speed. And Off Peak too!!!

Just rung and they said it's a problem and that they will email me when it is fixed. Sounds like a load of crap to me.

HAHAHA I have been trying to get through to them AGAIN since 12:30 it's now 1:15pm!

They told me the same as they told you when I called yesterday.....before I introduced the possibilty that what they were doing (if it were
deliberate) was most likely to result in legal issues on their part. I was put through to "Someone higher", who is looking into it and "will get back to me".

Call back NOW Possum, and DEMAND to speak to someone in CHARGE.

I vote for the next plan of attack..... Overload their phone lines, and force them to place a message on their website and phone line explaining that 99.99% of Big Time customers will be experiencing low-no download speeds and they don't know when it's going to be fixed...

Reading through this thread, it's not Telecom that looks like a bunch of kids... I see insults hurled, profanity (masked, but still...), baseless accusations, and general immaturity.

You're obviously not on the Big Time (or shall we say Small Time) plan, otherwise you'd most seriously understand everyone's (sometimes outrageous) behavior.

The fact the most of us cant pull more than 20-25KB/s from anywhere at ANY time of the pay and we're being robbed $60 for the privilage is what I am going on about... it's pathetic customer care, and their helpdesk is located in the Phillipines and are absolutely useless.

No, no I wouldn't understand it.  Maintaining the sort of complex equipment that runs these ISPs is not an easy job, and it's way too easy to make a tiny mistake with far reaching consequences (I've seen one case where turning on a Windows feature annihilated half of a metropolitan area network).  And to top it off, there's you guys ranting on about how Telecom is "obviously" sabotaging you (which even if they were, it's in the terms and conditions that they can) when they've been quite clearly saying there is a network issue.  Calling them "b*stards" and "a bunch of little kids" is also totally unnecessary (and I'm pretty sure it's a violation of the FUG here at Geekzone too).

Well, you've obviously got a lot of knowledge about your previous money-hungry fiends at Telecom than what the rest of us do. I know also how some of the equipment works there, and at this stage they do not even KNOW what has caused this so-called "outage". I asked for an explanation on what type of Outage it was, and they said "we're not at liberty to say"... That in itself is bloody suspicious, and reminds me slightly of what happened just before the mighty Go Large court case. Perhaps Telecom's been 'caught out' again, and this is going to result in the END of Big Time? That is ONE suggestion of what could be happening here, although they have assured me that this is a problem which technicians are working on.

When has anyone ever taken Telecom's word as gospel though? They've not done anything to earn that trust with their customers.

It may be hard.
But I doubt it costs them much to provide faster speed.
And the Law overrules terms & conditions no matter what the terms & conditions say anyways.

Nobody can bloody deny the false advertisement of the original "big time" adverts ("lightning fast downloads, as fast your line can go!!").
That in itslef got Telecom into hot water, and it's about to happen again, I would think....

Just been trying for the last half an hour to stream the live warriors game on my bigtime, it wasnt happening, would get a second of stream then two minutes buffering..
Im at my mates place 3 doors down who is on the adventure plan.. and ooh look at that the  thing is rock solid, grrr.. its probably only 50~kbps, its not to much to ask.
A bit of transperancy from telecom would be nice, let us know whats happening. The telecom rep that used to visit the forum has abandoned us.

Just as well he's abandoned us, he'd be full of excuses for Telecom anyway, mate. Don't worry, I am sure that either way all of us on Big Time will be paid back in some way, shape or form.
