OK. got the smart router set-up for the use with voyager.

I've got weird and complicated set-up, so it did not play nice at the begging.

I run pi-hole for DNS and DHCP, so devices were initially slow to connect to wifi for some reason, took longer to get online and show up at the connected section on the router.

However, with the few restarts of router and pi-hole server, everything is fine. But there was one glitch when internet went down out of the blue, don't know if it's voyager or router.

WiFi speed is good, LAN is perfect. Yet to try to max out the local content streaming (couple 4k movies simultaneously)

yeah got it on trademe

I just want an upgrade from HG659 that does not break my budget. I was hitting the limit of devices, separate DHCP solved that, but because of number of devices connected HG659 would have spontaneous wifi issues, like drop it off until I restart the thing. It could work for months and then have few dropouts during the day/week and work OK for months again.

I hope smart modem performs better.

Is there firmware update?

It really does yup.

Currently we dont publish the firmwares, which is why i find the usecase interesting.

Will have some conversations...

New version is on it's way out.

It's got quite a lot in it, and probably a few Easter eggs... I'll see if there is a changelog that can be pulled together.

That FON SIID should be gone, and those who were having issues with some ADSL linecards will be alot happier now :)

Still got my old Technicolor fiber modem (The one with a single Gigabit lan port and 3 10/100 ports)

Those old Huawei units were failing left right and center usually just wont turn on or the whole thing will crash after a couple months and refuse to give out IP's, When it worked it worked fine but it did have some issues.

How good is the 5ghz range on it? I'm using a WRT1900ACS currently but the 5ghz range isn't great and 2.4ghz reminds me of adsl

Just got one of these when a friend re-signed up with Spark and didn't need a new box as the old Spark one still worked fine for her. Set it up for 2degrees broadband (our old Fritzbox sadly died) and it worked wonderfully for about a day.

Now we can connect OK to the SSID from all our devices but it refuses to allow you to go to any web pages and also refuses to allow you to connect to the default IP and login as admin. Similar with copper, you get a connection and can ping the default IP but no web pages. The really odd thing is our two Cat 6 DLink cameras still work just fine, I can connect to them via MyDlink from my cell phone when I am at work etc. Not sure what firmware we have, but the modem only arrived at our friends place a week or so ago. Tried rebooting it and that seemed to give sporadic connectivity for a start but now a reboot doesn't help.

Going to default it shortly and see if I can make any progress.

Sounds like there might be something odd about your network..

I'd pull it back to stock though and see if it comes right.

Firmware is v6.00.06 build01 I don't know if this is the latest. If Spark restrict downloading updates I see this as an issue as the box is essentially locked to Spark.

Anyway with the 2degrees broadband user and password I am connected again for a while. I have changed the DHCP lease to 2 days to see if it falls over after 2 days this time. Humm my Chromebook seems to have lost connection already, hopefully my laptop I am working on will still stay connected long enough to post this. :(

Spark manage firmware via ACS, Which is ofcourse limited to just Spark's network.

That is the out of the box version on the first batch, so yes. it is out of date. (and missing a fair bit of the 'smarts')

It is worth remembering, this is a Device built directly for a particular provider, it's not an off the shelf RGW. as such, it may not do all the things a end user wants out of it.
