Anyone know the real reason why it's shutting down?

I am going to say that it was never marketed correctly in the first place... So if it has anything to do with uptake then it's there own damn fault.

Stop Telecom bashing. Read Telecom's website, it clearly states the reason the P2T service is closing.

Telecom P2T:

Our Push 2 Talk service is provided through an independent Telecom partner. Unfortunately we have been advised that they will no longer be providing the technology, and as a result we will be closing down Push 2 Talk on 31 July, 2008. As from 4 February 2008, we are no longer offering any new Push 2 Talk accounts.
