I have had Spark's Wireless Broadband (4G) installed this week, and very nice it is too. The same 60GB per month as my ADSL2 plan, much faster up and download speed, and a few dollars less per month. Who could resist it?

I rather like my corded phones though, and a man at Spark reckoned that they probably would not work on the Huawei B315s modem, so I bought a Cisco SPA112 ATA for them. Actually two out of three of them do work 100% on the Huawei, so that was a pleasant surprise.

However, I would like to use the ATA anyway, but I can't manage to get it working. Just will not "register" the line. I have tried a number of variations in the setup boxes on many pages, but I think some Spark specific info is needed. I have emailed Spark about some help, but haven't heard back yet.

There is a Quick Setup page (pic attached). Could anyone suggest exactly what is needed in the boxes to get the ATA to work on Spark please?

The connection is behind CG-NAT isn't it rather than a public IP? If so VoIP isn't going to work without some serious hacking (and then maybe not at all)

Why not just get the Spark landline over the router? it's over a private APN so has guaranteed QoS

Well, looking at the setup information for the SPA112 that Kiwilink and 2talk have on the internet, I hoped there would be similarities to what I needed for Spark. Maybe not, I don't know much about what I'm trying to do.

But at the least, the setup seems to need the address of a server at Spark?

As above, you more than likely don't have a public IP address with Spark, so it isn't going to work.

You can't configure an ATA to connect to Spark. Spark's voice is a fully end to end managed solution that's delivered using the voice ports (built in ATA) in the Huawei modem.

Is there a reason why you're not simply using the Spark voice solution? Your existing phones plug straight into the modem.

Thanks to both of you. You are finally getting through to me as to why what I am trying will not work. I'm a bit slow on this topic.

What started it is that someone at Spark told me that my existing corded phones would not work, but then as I said at first, two out of three did work, as if they were still on a POTS line. But one didn't, so I thought I would try to get the ATA working anyway. With no success, and now I think I see why.

The ATA is on a separate APN. So your best bet is to get phone service from Spark. It would be provisioned end to end and you wouldn't need to do anything more than plugging into the ATA with preferably a walk around DECT phone into the RJ11 and you're away.
Private IP + CGNat with ALG disabled + No QOS on the APN for non Spark SIP services is welcoming a world of pain.

Sparks voice service is SIP over a separate APN with QoS tagging routed directly without NAT to the Spark Broadsoft SIP core that also runs their Voice over Fibre UFB service and it's not VoLTE.
It's locked to certain 4G only frequencies so will never fall back to 3G.

Sure does. This way the SIP session can be prioritized over any downloads and if you blow your data cap your phone doesn't stop working.
It's a fully managed service so it's done properly.
