I'm getting very annoyed with the weekly texts from Skinny telling me about free data weekends. How can I make these stop?

I've set every notification in my account to e-mail, and special offers to e-mail only, yet I still receive these messages every single week.

I do not want to hear about anything via text EVER. One e-mail informing me of the 'special' is more than sufficient.

Have you tried replying to the message with

STOP

Tried it now... we'll see what happens next week unless someone from Skinny confirms.

In the entire history of messages from Skinny from that number, no instructions have ever been given on how to opt-out. At the very least I would have expected a response to my messages telling me exactly what commands it accepted.

I believe its a condition of the anti-spam act that recipients must be able to opt our of marketing messages via the same method of delivery and that instructions on how to opt out are also included on each message.

Special Offers via text are turned off on the Website (Don't use the app, nor can I).

The OP already replied with STOP and it looks like it's unchecked. If it happens again then he can try that.

Nope, STOP didn't work.

I have now tried turning the notifications on and off. I'm not expecting that to work either. If it does, it's still a bug Skinny should be fixing. Data inconsistency is bad.

The opt out used to work, but with a catch: If you opted out of the notifications then you didn't get the deals either!

Bugger.

I have sent a request to Skinny for comment, and included a link to this thread.

Try texting back STFU :) or just put the number on a block list.

Some of the stuff sent to that number over recent weeks was quite offensive :)

The problem is Skinny uses the same number for their promotional texts and account notifications. At least now account notifications are coming via e-mail. For a while I was getting texts initially at midnight, and later at 6am (I changed it), telling me my account had been topped up. I needed it to be early enough to fix payment problems before I went to work, with the renewal later in the day. Yes, I'm a cheapskate - I don't have much credit on my account so I'm free to switch providers when they annoy me with things like this.
