All Down my street they are digging up the road and laying down green pipes labeled telecom, and right up the road where the areas cabinet is placed there digging around that to.
There is now a silver grate over the footpath right next to the cabinet marked telecom, whats under there?

the telecom site says that our upgrade should be in place by sept 2010. are they doing it now or just preparing?

Im kind of interested in what they are up to :P

Well telecom do not lay water pipes so I would say they are laying fiber to the cabinet

What area are you in? Looks like they are ahead of schedule - or it could be a new cellphone tower :P

There have been a lot occur ahead of schedule but the work does take a lot of time. I certainly wouldn't get too excited about it happening before Septermber but it could happen.

haha, course they aint water pipes, it would just be a protective outer casing, yea reading up on it, i think they must be fiber, guess ill just have to wait and see :P

They are preparing to replace that there green box thing with one of these

First they run the fibre to it from the telephone exchange. This usually runs through existing telecom ducts under the road.

Next they will install the cabinet

Then you will see a couple of guys sitting on tiny stools for a couple of days fiddling with wires and patching them on the board. I would hate to have this job.

I find locally they are running a few months ahead of schedule. The cabinet I am attached to was installed last month, and is now working, but not due to be done untill June

No speed increase - I still only have an ADSL1 modem but it did go up about half a mbit but dropped it down again when i did some shoddy wiring when i put in a pbx.

To see if your cabinet's going to be upgraded in the near future I'd suggest looking at the chorus website http://www.chorus.co.nz/cabinet-notices#cs-3503

Dam mines not on there, but it only goes up to june, so ill keep checking, im guessing that the migration date is ment to be the day they switch over the cabinets?

Hmm.. I wonder if "RD/BY Richmond Richmond 05-May-10" is the part of richmond i'm in or not

Look on the coverage maps, they have Google Maps to show you the address each cabinet and exchange covers.
