Any suggestions why it's not receiving service from xt?

It's on 4.2 baseband 5.14 unlocked by vodafone. Have tried 3G on and both off. Sometimes when I restart it several times it will show up with service but when I try to make a call it does work

Telecom XT is 100% 3G, and if you turn 3G off on your iPhone then you won't get any service...
