Half a million Kiwis get huge increase in broadband data for free

Half a million New Zealanders on Telecom’s most popular residential landline broadband plans will soon benefit from twice the amount of data than they’ve ever had before.

Telecom customers are using, on average, a third more data than last year so in response to customer demand, Telecom has dramatically increased broadband data allowances.

From 1 August, 2011, broadband customers on Total Home, Total Home Starter and Total Home Lite will receive a whopping twice the amount of data, while customers on Total Home Broadband and the Total Home suite of optional add on packages (excluding Go and Pro add-ons) will receive up to 20GB more data, at no extra cost.

Kieren Cooney, Chief Marketing Officer for Telecom Retail, said giving customers a huge data increase on their broadband plans was in direct response to customer demand.

“As the use of computers and tablets grows, so does the demand for data. With twice the amount of data, our customers will receive fantastic value for money.

“Kiwis on the standard Total Home plan will now receive 10GB more at no extra cost so they can now watch up to 14 hours of TV over the internet, view 2,500 web pages, watch 6 hours of HD YouTube, spend 250 hours playing Xbox online gaming and still have data to spare,” said Mr Cooney.

Telecom’s permanent increase in broadband data will automatically take effect from 1 August, 2011. Customers on Total Home plans and optional broadband extra packages will be notified by letter and will be able to see the change to their plan on their August bill.
