jonherries: maybe "big ups" or "totes" or even "yip" or "yeah, na" my wife hates how kiwis say use the last one.

We could go also with Leonardo De Caprio from Catch Me If You Can and use "I concur. Do you concur?"

Jon

But wouldn't that only work on an individual basis? Or if it gets a vote? (re: "I" concur.)

IIRC that was the joke in the movie. He was pretending to be a doctor and all he could say was "I concur" and then he would deflect by saying to others "Do you concur?". You could simplify and just call it concur.

+1 seems a little cliche to me. As it is essentially used to indicate whether someone likes something, there is no reason why the number has to be 1 for each "like". For instance, there is no reason why it can't be +255.

But of course that is nowhere near geeky enough. Therefore I propose the implementation of a +FF button.

I am almost going with "Concur" and "Withdrawal".

Best part of the clip: "Why did I not concur?" at the end.

By the way... Even if the button shows you can't "concur" with yourself...

Should it be concurs?
Also any chance it could be moved where the reply # and date is? Or Below where the Compose Reply is? It's distracting where it is?

Can we turn it off if that isn't possible?

Yes, for one person. Will fix soon.

networkn: Also any chance it could be moved where the reply # and date is? Or Below where the Compose Reply is? It's distracting where it is?

Distracting or really does what it's supposed to and draw attention to a post with lots of support?

networkn: Can we turn it off if that isn't possible?

This is a first release. On/Off will come later.

Turning it off means you won't know if someone get's support from the other users. Your loss.

Another thought. The current implementation is only really useful for showing when people agree with a particular post or opinion. Would it be worthwhile having separate Agree/Disagree counts, so we could also indicate when we disagree with a particular post?

That would be the vote down, which I didn't want to implement.

By the way, why don't we get together all click [+1] for this topic?

Also I l know that currently if you have already voted up and reload the page the button will show [+1]. Rest assured if you click it your vote won't be counted twice. I will later make sure it shows [-1] if you have already voted.

If you don't mind sharing, I'd be interested in hearing why you're against the idea of implementing this. Especially considering you have vast experiencing monitoring a community of diverse individuals with an equally diverse range of opinions.

Because I can see some poor guy being ganged up by people with torches and pitchforks after posting a stupid comment, then complaining that there's been bullying and go running crying to someone higher up.

Remember, this is anonymous (for the public, not for us) and people can be nasty when they think they are anonymous.

Ok... Behind the scenes it took me about three hours coding and testing this. A new table in the database, one new filtered unique index, three new stored procedures and all the checks basically re-use the same functions the main forum script uses so that saved a lot of development and test time.

I know there are a couple of more things to do, but we're in code fast, release fast mode today (and I have to leave the house soon, so rather have something out of the door today than next Monday).
