Wouldnt this cause people to make rubbish posts just to get a badge? - like post in the introductions to get one, and lodge a fault?

And would prefer to see the highest badge of each type

My 2 cents worth :)

We already have the number of posts and stars under your name and we don't see this problem. We can easily get people posting rubbish in their proper place, as we've always done.

How about a profile section where we can specify what type of technology we own in check boxes, so I would get an Ubuntu badge, a Windows badge, a WP7 badge etc.

Basically make badges that show off our geeky affiliations

Good one - although that is based on what users check instead of what they actually do, so someone could just go around and check all boxes...

In that case should it be based on browser device id?

Yes, we could do something like that... Still, people could fudge with their user agent string anyway. But not a bad idea.

/me pushes barrow

A badge for connecting via IPv6?

Or "Shy[1]", a badge for achieving one of the Posting or Friends milestones without having posted to the Introduction forum?

I thought of another one: "Music Lover", for being a member of the Geekzone group on a service that I'm going to leave the discovery of as an exercise to the reader, as there are only 20 of us so far Laughing (in the group---not on the service).

Could be used as a way of standardising signatures as part of the ongoing "do we need signatures" debate. Allow for example one line of text and one line of show off your arsenal icons.
