Not only has all the traffic from the world's biggest streaming site for gamers (twitch.tv) been routed through China for the past 2-3 months so that Vodafone's customers get oodles of pauses in video streams with even 1.3Mbps bitrates, tonight half the populated Oceania Battlefield 4 servers are unplayable because traffic is being routed through China, again...

Thanks so much Vodafone... When will your bloody UFB service be functional again?

why is it being routed via china? you got any proof to this. twitch stuff i believe for our part of the world comes from singapore.

Hong Kong is in Hong Kong and China is it's own country, I have visited both

Hong Kong use to be under British rule but I am sure then it was not in Britain and still in the same location as it is now

So the traffic is going via Hong Kong

One IP hop... who knows how many MPLS hops.

Some say Hong Kong, some say Indonesia. I suspect it's actually Hawaii, as there's not really enough hops to bounce around through Asia before hitting the US. There is just enough to be taking a fairly torturous route across the Southern Pacific Cable tho.

Have to agree something does not seem right but internet traffic does not always take the most direct path due to a number of reasons

Local speed is usually good. Currently ~86Mbps, but I've had over 100Mbps yet the twitch.tv streams as low as 1.3Mbps are still inundated with pauses. People on the BigPipe service in Auckland can watch multiple twitch.tv video streams broadcasting at Source bitrates (4-6Mbps) without any pausing.
