Page 7 shows that Vodafone NZ acquired:

68,000 new customers over the last quarter from 1.10.2005 to 31.12.2005

With a total customer base of 2,024,000. So does anyone know how many customers Telecom acquired?

Fixed the /a tag (was round the wrong way), and it seems to have deleted further lines in your post. Unintentional, and I cant fix it sorry - Mauricio may be able to.

edit: They are back again.... (and so is the error on the closing tag)...

He probably works for them and thus may have access to the statistics before they are released to the public. It sometimes seems most people here either work for Voda or Telecom, with the people who don't in the minority.

Voda must be gutted - Christmas is supposed to be the busiest time. What shocking figures! Oh well I guess 3G just hasn't cut it for them.

No wonder they are laying off 20 managers. I guess they are 'non performing' managers.

Telecom's growth figures will be interesting. At a time where we have reached near saturation in the NZ market some of the growth is now coming from large numbers of people who have 2 phones. Knowing the churn figures would also be very interesting but it's something we're obviously not going to know..

It was interesting the other day to look at a few of the new Vodafone offerings in Europe. Vodafone are very much into contracts again however rather than NZ who forces you to sign up for 24 months there are options for term & non term contracts. In the UK for example you can eithe take out a plan with no contract, pay the same price with an 18 month contract however they are throwing in extras such as stop the clock (the UK pay for 3 mins talk for an hour). I actually hope Vodafone get their [****] bums kicked again, the sooner Vodafone realise their current plans are actually hurting them and not helping them then the sooner we'll get some decent deals..

You'll find that most retailers had a poor sales month compared to previous years in December. Last year Xmas rush just never occured, people seem to be spreading their shopping throughout the year now.

I think that was the general consensus by most retailers (this is what I got from family member who is manager for large retail store). He did say that his observation of prepaid sales (they dont do contracts) Voda did better than Telecom this year but compared to previous years, mobile sales overall this Xmas was way down. I guess there has to be some point where enough is enough.

I wonder if handset sales for Voda are measured differently to actual new connections?

My thoughts: If a Telecom cust wants to upgrade their prepaid phone then they buy a NEW prepaid phone with a NEW number and then they transfer their OLD number to this new handset. Does this count as a NEW connection?

In the other camp if a Voda customer buys a NEW handset then they dont actually buy a NEW connection as they use their existing sim card.

So - are these figures bandied about actually NEW connections or NEW handsets. In terms of acquiring NEW customers surely this makes a difference.

Does this make sense?

Have you actually seen a Telecom ad on TV either? The Xmas/New Year/ealy Jan is a very quiet time for TV advertising due to a very low number of viewers.
