hairy1: I am currently with Vodafone.

It is just a change from ADSL to VDSL.

The weird thing is the existing modem gets an ADSL sync. It just doesn't connect....

Were you on the Red network before, do you know? Switching from our Red network to VDSL requires major provisioning changes, your connection at the exchange is being physically moved from one set of equipment to another and your old port will be decommissioned. Although I would have thought if that were the case they would only relinquish your MPF line once the VDSL install is complete. Let me know if you want me to check this out for you!

Vodafone have advised me that they will install my VDSL on Monday 10th.

This morning, the courier delivered a carton containing two (2) HG659 Home Gateway Modems.

The accompanying delivery docket refers to a VOD-VODA HG659 MODEM and a VOD-HUAWEI HG659 WARRANTY MODEM

Why 2?

Do they serve different purposes or do both get installed?

Was a mistake made?

VDSL all up and running here.

We have gone from 14 down / 1 up to 32 down / 10 up.

Well, my upgrade happened today (Thanks Tim). Speeds have changed from 13.2/0.89 D/U to 36.1/8.4 D/U so a very good result in my opinion. My only criticism is that there is very little documentation supplied with the HG659, and neither the Huawei or Vodafone sites seem to have a manual for download. I have the WAN, LAN, DHCP etc set up but would like to use the USB storage option and have no clue how to set this up and access it. Anyone have a guide for this?

OK, thanks. I'm using an old Linksys NSLU2 as a NAS at the moment and hope that the HG659 might give better speeds, given it's gigabit ethernet. Will have to wait and see

Not expecting much - the NSLU2 has done a great job for ten years and cost very little. But, it only gives between 4-5MBps r/w speeds and I'd like something a little faster for my shared storage. Either a simple NAS or a faster router, like the Asus DSL-N66U http://www.trustedreviews.com/asus-dsl-n66u_Peripheral_review_setup-performance-verdict_Page-2
The HG659 has gigabit ethernet and 802.11ac so that will be a help anyway if I shift to a NAS
