hehe, did a phone call to an 027 number via VFNZ Internet (3G) to see how much would it cost. VOIP provider was 2talk. Had $15.32 in VF account before the call and after the 48 second call, was left with $11.05. Costed $3.41 for a 48 second call + .25 for 2alk's calling rate. Thought it would be cheaper to use 3G to ring rather than spenind $1.39 to ring from VF to TCNZ number. Wifi for life on N95!

Ps - Good news is that it obviously was not a 1Mb call otherwise would had $10 deducted from VF account. So the $1/10Mb deal from 28th july would be really a sweet option for heavy VOIP users like me.

Do whatever you want to do man.

mwg: Not sure if this is the right topic, so apologies in advance..

I have a BB 8700G that I got from Aus. I'm currently on prepay with it (I have a work phone). I would like to be able to use the Gmail app I have installed, however it doesn't seem to function on voda prepay at the moment (complains about lack of data connection).

Once the new casual rate becomes available, will this start working for me?

Any advice appreciated.

No! The only thing that is changing is data charging they are not going to give you access to the RIM relay!

In the menu goto options-->mobile network--> and turn off data services! This will save your prepay credit from been used up,

For all of you who are signed up for the iPhone 3G notifications by email you would have received one today. For those who havnt, it contained this sentence:

"We will be rolling out our exciting iPhone 3G plans very soon."

So keep an eye out for NEW data plans maybe!? YAY :D

...Lets hope theyre MUCH cheaper!

One can only hope! if the iphone plan/s are similar to this one i wont be signing up, it defeats the purpose of having an internet equipped phone when your too scared of going broke because of exorbent data charges.. Not long now and we will know.. Within the next few days the plans will be out.

So why should the iphone be the only internet connected phone to benifit from a new plan? There are plenty of people out there with windows and s60 phones that have being using the internet since before the iphone was around who deserve a decnet plan too.

If any new plans are iphone specific I will be somewhat annoyed if they are a lot better then the current ones.

From What I can Gather, It sounds to me that vodafone is charging $1 for the first 10mb right, But then $1 for every megabyte there after. But now the confusion is " You will only get charged for what you use "

Which I think this means, The first 10 megabyte will be charged at roughly 0.10cents a megabyte. = 0.01cent per killobyte

Once you have reached your 10megabyte cap " For the day " , then the data rate changes to $1 per megabyte.

Well this is my very first post guys :)

Ok but now I have some questions, Everyone is talking about Voip, with gprs, Is this with your cellphone through your pc?
Or talking through gprs using a java based program on your phone? Has anyone tried that?

It is charged at $5 per MB up to $1.00 and then capped at $1 right up until you have used 10MB.

VoIP over GPRS isnn't feasible but VoIP over 3G is - all E & N series phones that support WiFi have had a SIP stack in them which means you can connect to any SIP provider and use the phone over 3G or WiFi. GPRS isn't fast enough to support a decent convesation. I use VoIP over a 3G a bit and it works reasonably well.

Just to throw the cat among the pidgeons... I know this is what has been said on here by a respected source, but VF customer services told me it was going to be $10 per MB up to $1.00... Somebody is wrong.

Either way it's pretty much a "flag fall" - if you connect to the internet you'll get charged $1, and then you get 10MB of data for free.

Its a step in the right direction but I'd like to see options like $5 for 50mb for example.

T-Mobile UK has announced a £2 a day plan with unlimited daily access (actually fair use limit is 3 GB/day)...

Data is turning into a price fighter just like SMS was several years ago. There are some key changes happening within the Vodafone Group as well with group now wanting data caps to be included with all on account plans (and I'm not meaning data addons - I'm meaning like the UK who give you 500MB free per month with every on account plan).

Welcome to the world of competition in the mobile marketplace. It's a shame it doesn't exist in NZ.
