- It really upset interactive users trying to use the Internet at that time.
- It's REALLY upset the torrenters now they have (by the look of it) had to allocate some (not a lot) bandwidth to the torrent plan exclusively.
- The time and cost of making those engineering changes, plus dealing with the upset customers on the helpdesk.
- The goodwill of the customers remaining.
- The cost of losing some customers based on the periods of bad performance and the cost of not getting new customers.

Out of these five points, only the first one makes any sense at all. Xnet have made no attempt to throttle the torrent plan or give it some reduced exclusive bandwidth. That`s just a rumour which is not true.

Before these night-time speed issues started, you were just about the only person that was complaining about the torrent plan, while plenty others were showing their appreciation for it. So you like to browse the internet or play online games after midnight? Then instead of trying to convince all torrent plan customers to leave the plan, why don`t you just realize that Xnet is not for you and find yourself another ISP? The Torrent plan is here to stay, and it will not be pooled. People who do regular time-critical internet activity at night are better off with another ISP. Why are u still with Xnet?

What!?!?

I complained about the performance of the internet at midnight, when my interactive use became highly compromised. I do use the Internet regularly after midnight and at least one of the racing leagues I partake in have races (rFactor or GTR Evo) that start or finish after midnight. I'd prefer to use Xnet because of the interleaving off...

If you bothered to read my first post here, you'll note that I do in fact have a backup ADSL connection at home (Go Large) and have been switching to that for any important stuff I need to do after midnight, or if a race is going to still be running even after 11pm or so.

The people showing appreciation for the Torrent plan before whatever changes Xnet have made are a bunch of selfish users that in at least one case have declared that the don't care if ordinary users can't use the Internet after midnight so long as they get good speeds on their torrents.

SO to answer your question, I am with TWO ISPs and have 2 separate lines because I do recognise that there's no one size fits all plan and more than once I have had Xnet die and have been able to switch back to Go Large.

As for whatever Xnet have done to destory (apparently) the after midnight use for the users on the Torrent plan - I was only passing on a rumour I have heard so you MIGHT be right in that they haven't attempted to give it some exclusive bandwidth. But I have to ask, where does your assertion come from that they haven't done anything like this? Would you agree that the massive and sudden decrease in torrent performance is consistent with a smaller dedicated pool of bandwidth given to the torrent plan users? Because I believe that it is a logical conclusion.

The torrent plan has been a god-send for everyone that had been affected by the historically well-documented peak time international speed problems. No, it`s not only the leechers that have benefited. A huge majority of regular Fusion customers have greatly benefited from the freed-up peak bandwidth. I`m sorry u need to pay two ISP`s but you are a clear minority. Business decisions are always based on numbers, never on the wishes of one or two people who like to spend the night playing computer games.

I give up - I believe you have missed my point entirely about unfair utilisation of scarce resources. You can have the thread - it's like bashing my head against a brick wall and there's too much motorsport on TV to worry about this.

Some people get to emotive about these issues, take it personally, when really its not a personal matter, nor life and death...its business and just a service.

Enough with the insults people, theres no need for arguements.

Lets just hope the matter gets resolved promptly.

Those who are still not happy, I recommend either calling xnet, or make the change to another plan or ISP.

ok lets assume this is true,

If each pool had the same amount of bandwidth per user then I'd say its perfectly fine!, if those users in the torrent pool were to rape their connections causing a slowdown by their habits then that is their problem.

By nature a torrent uses up bandwidth in a constant wave over a long period of time (12am-8am) and should not affect someone eleses burst connection ie, http or gaming whatever.

The easy fix would be to implement true prioritisation 24/7 on the total bandwidth, then it doesnt matter what time of day joe bloggs is trying to view facebook it will be sweet as those packets will always be placed before john do's torrent packets that are not latency dependant, plus john wont hardly notice a slight drop in speed for a few seconds over the 12am-8am period each time Joe uses other applications.

Obviously the numbers or disgruntled users leaving xnet does not warrent this investment just yet. Good on them for trying alternative methods first to keep overall monthly prices down.

No, that would be an ilogical conclusion. My reasoning? If torrent users were being placed in a bandwidth pool, normal non-torrent users would not be experiencing the exact same speed issues as those on the torrent plan.

It is 1:45 on a Sunday morning, unusual for me to be awake but since I have returned from a trip to South Africa... My modem sync at about 9.5 Mbps. Speed to XNet was slow over lunch, a bit over 3 Mbps. Now in "torrent time" my speed to XNet is 7.9 Mbps, to Sydney is 1.7 Mbps, and to LA is 7.2 Mbps. If there is a speed issue, then I do not see it other than expected fluctuations likely due to exchange congestion. Everyone is not experiencing the "problem", unless all torrner users switched ISP yesterday.

I'm sure someone will ask: Fusion, non-torrent, Pakuranga exchange, static IP, 2x VFX lines.

PS: VFX worked perfectly clear between NZ and SA even though in SA we were on about 380 kbps.

PPS: Someone probably already noticed GeekZone is not dealing well with our daylight saving time.

So that said, if you are getting good speeds, then its just those on the Torrent plan?

This is getting beyond ridiculous now...

I have supported xnet for some time now and recently made a xnet supporters thread...but I am now getting annoyed.

I can't even open the speedtest.net website...its that bad.

It appears local sites are ok, but anything international is going at a snails pace...

I did a speedtest on the xnet website, at that reported me as having a connection speed of 2415kbps download - 107kbps upload?....is that speedtest local only?

Its been aprox 5 mins alreay, I have been refreshing, and I still cant get into speedtest.net

can someone tell me what interleaving is? what does it mean if i turn it off?
and also if i go back to 1 dollar per gb, will my speed improve to normal?
sad to see xnet doesnt give a hoot about torrent users anymore.
please do answer my q's in the simplest form as I dont underdtand half the things discussed at the moment :)
also, what is cabinetisation or whatevr?

Just to give ya all an idea how slow and painfull this is...

speedtest.net website....I have been trying to load for over an hour now...
After 1 hour, its up to 84%.....still can't run it.

Thanks for saying so...saves me trying various things to try to fix it AND from thinking it's my local exchange. I'm having exactly the same problems... regular plan, Eastern Bay of Plenty.

No LOL Cat fix for me this morning. Or my regular forum browse. But at least the phone should still be working.
