Yes will almost certainly apply to GPRS as well - you can't penalise a user for not noticing which network they are on.

The day of the 3G launch is here.
Vodafone will release his ad campaign today. I wonder how it will be.

They said they didnt use the global VF ads, they made all locally to be more market specific. In the first month they will focus on video calling mainly.
They gonna have longer interviews on TV3, One, etc..

Term #7 says: The use of Vodafone Mobile Connect for Voice over IP (VoIP) is excluded.

This must be aimed at Skype - and here's why:

Skype uses about 1/4 (.25) MB per minute (based on 30kbps - my best estimate). So the cost per minute therefore depends on what you are paying for data.

At $149 per Gigabyte that is 14.5c/MB or 3.6c per minute!

At $99 per 500MB that is 19.8c/MB or 4.95c per minute!

I wonder if this is just a legal exclusion, or if VoIP is blocked?

Vodafone Germany announced plans to block all VoIP traffic on their 3G network from next year. The story appeared a few weeks ago, if you do a Google News Search you'll find a few links to it.

Hi Johnr - everything seems to be working well with 3G (half the problem has been signal strength at times).

Still find that SMS fails a bit - kinda crazy really! But once again it could be that I'm at a point where 3G coverage isn't quite enough, yet it's not weak enough to fall back to 2G.

Also find that I can't download anything? I can stream video, but when I tried to download one of my 5 free bits of music, it always failed.

Didn't see any adverts so far today?

I had sms issues with my Z1010,under data-sms access make sure GSM is selected. Not GPRS.

Thanks Andrewcnz!

That will be the problem - I had forgotten about that setting.

Our 21 month old daughter thinks the video calls are great - she got used to them in Australia (on holiday) and was most disappointed when she couldn't "see mummy" when we got back to NZ.

Will definitely be using the free video calling for the next month or two!

VNC Unleashed is interesting it is advertised as 'all you can eat' but has a 'fair usage' cap of 1GB. So it isn't really 'all you can eat' and if you go over it Voda can at their option disconnect you or cancel your contract.

Its like the $12.95 'all you can eat' buffet where they take the food away half way through your second helping!

Well Johnr it shouldn't be called 'all you can eat' - because it is not. I did 3GB over the faster mobile network last month.....

You had to put the word faster in there, Well if the W-CDMA network is slower then it should be harder to clock up the Gigs and the fastest car does not always win the race remember it needs a great driver and excellent team.
