Yes, the videos play back just fine with no difficulties whatsoever in the middle of the night. If the peak-hour behaviour does not improve, I'll simply switch to fibre and never look back.

I still think Vodafone's "FibreX" plans have potential, especially for their price. But Vodafone's dropped the ball again, even after investing $22 million and upgrading to DOCSIS 3.1 + D-CMTS. I wish that the cable network felt more like a viable alternative to fibre-based UFB rather than the thing that people bear with until they can get fibre installed. I know that the network and hardware are capable of so much more based on the results I was getting early on, but Vodafone seemingly has not maintained things to cope with the increased demand.

I was using the "stats for nerds" right-click option. 4K alone has a recommended 35-45 Mbps bitrate, while 4K60 has a recommended 53-68 Mbps bitrate. 8K should theoretically be able to have a much higher bitrate yet. Either way, I was getting a heck of a lot of buffering at an average of 65 Mbps.

I consider high bandwidth to be a relatively reliable 100+ Mbps. That shouldn't result in buffering on even the highest-bitrate videos.

I do understand that bandwidth will vary significantly from video to video based on which cache it's fetched from, but it's still a shame to get buffering on a "gigabit" connection.

What stream host do you see in that view? Both when you see good performance and when it's buffering would be useful.

Still getting outages. Had to power cycle the system to get connection back tonight. Speeds are OK but stability is poor

Here is a crazy notion, lets give peace a chance.

I donate monthly to Digital Foundry's Patreon and download their high-quality HEVC uploads. I get ~2 MB/s at best most days and often fall below 1 MB/s, frequently into the few-hundred KB/s range. There are rare times where I burst above that. I was unsure if this was due to Vodafone, CDN77, or something with Digital Foundry's setup. Fortunately, tonight I found my answer thanks to a friend with gigabit fibre through MyRepublic. I'm guessing you can guess where this is going.

I offered my friend 250 Siacoin so that she could enjoy the high-quality 4K Metro upload and also to benchmark her 'net against mine. I'm blown away by her performance, and absolutely disgusted with how it stacks up against Vodafone.

Look at that. Holy crap. She's literally an order of magnitude faster. She pushed 30+ MB/s with relative consistency as well.

I'm done. I'm talking with my flatmate tomorrow and discussing dropping this connection. I am not getting anywhere near the advertised performance, especially when trying to enjoy ultra-high-bitrate content.

Yeah I had to power cycle last night to regain a working connection. Nor sure what went wrong. All lights looked fine.

I have a friend with VDSL who I found out also supports Digital Foundry and gets ~6 MB/s. :\ Meanwhile on Vodafone "gigabit" FibreX...

And this is on a "good" night. Ergh. Massively disappointed with this connection.

No way will I be paying a "disconnect fee" for this either. This connection's real-world performance makes me yearn for VDSL.

Couple of friends have MyRepublic and they've got excellent things to say about their service. Their peak-hour speeds are virtually always 945+ Mbps on Speedtest.net, and their real-world performance is stellar. I cannot say the same for Vodafone.

Consents are already sorted from a few months ago, and Chorus previously scoped but didn't install things. Not sure if they'll need to scope again. They probably will.

Congestion on pure fibre? Either way it seems like fibre is better than fibre X.

Yeah, I saw that already. But even with the 30% boost, Vodafone cable (21 Mbps) is still 25% slower than the next-slowest ISP (28 Mbps/TrustPower fibre). Would take another 33% boost for FibreX to catch up.
