Has anyone had any intermittent issues with devices plugged into the second Ethernet connection on a Deco?

This has happened to me just once.

My second is in the kitchen and there's just one device in that area so hard wired it.
Played up once but really has been rock solid for the most part.

enfield: The wireless adapter on my PC has stopped working so wondering if I can plug in a PC with Ethernet connection to second deco unit (connected to the main deco over wifi).

If it was that close I'd be hard wiring the PC anyway.

i've just joined Vodafone and am close to redeeming the superwifi offer.

I've read through this whole thread and have one unanswered question with regard to the 'TP-Link Deco' app on iOS.

In the App Store details for the app, it states the app has several 'In-App Purchases' available: 'Monthly $10.99', 'Yearly $100.99' and 'Total Security $289.99'

I have installed the app and created a TP-Link account but can't see anywhere in the app to prompt an in-app purchase. (This will likely reveal itself once I have the Deco's registered in the app.)

As no one has mentioned these in-app purchases, does anyone know what they are, and are they a prerequisite? Obviously I don't want to buy them, and am already not hugely keen on the idea of the app involving 'the cloud' to control the devices in my home. Just keen to know if anyone can explain what they are.

I gathered that, but what are they? What are they actually selling? Have you been prompted in-app to purchase these "upgrades" ?

I’ve never been prompted to purchase them. I assume these subscriptions refer to the parental and antivirus features.

I’ve had these turned on and never have been prompted.

I want to fully tautoko @cokemaster - everything I've tried with these devices, from Vodafone promotions and on TP LInk sites, (I posted some links a few pages ago.) has worked fine with our SuperWiFi. (Although we don't use the parental, QOS (?) and antivirus features - see AP mode comment below.)

Not sure if I fully get one part of your initial question:
@RogerMellie: ... and am already not hugely keen on the idea of the app involving 'the cloud' to control the devices in my home. ...
As far as I can tell, most day to day management of these devices requires the app, and that is entirely cloud-based. The Master Deco unit connects to TP Link's cloud. The app connects to TP Link's cloud to control the network through the Master unit. I'm not too sure of the relationship between master and slave units, but am pretty sure it is complicated.

We have had ours since May. Very happy with them (one or two niggles). We are using them in AP mode (no router or other services) and each node is wired to a switch.

Well worth it if you are confident you'll be with Vodafone for two years.

I note the firmware on these units is just about a year old, are there any updates coming?

Has anyone had issues connecting a Google Chromecast Ultra to the Deco units and found a way to do it? I can't get mine to connect to the Deco's WiFi.

Apparently only if something serious goes wrong!

@stevec once it's all set up (using the app) you can actually manage the setup etc through a browser, just using the IP address of the master unit

you will (of course) need the password for the "owner tp-link id"

Here is a list of features available from the web interface. Many more features are on the app.
Does the web interface still work if there is no Internet connection? Perhaps the list above is settings stored on the device. Other features are cloud-based.

So my FIL just ordered this and this 300Mbit upgrade. VF were actually really good to deal with and handled both issues in a single call, and his stuff has been dispatched. I haven't had a chance to look into it, or read the rest of the thread so hopefully, no-one will mind me asking two simple questions;

Will they replace the Huawei Router he already has with another? IE does he just replace the router and place the mesh devices? Does that have wireless built in that forms part of the Mesh? Then the other two devices get spread evenly throughout the house and this provides the total coverage? My FIL house is a U shape with his office and bedroom quarters forming the up of the U. The Router is in the bedroom quarters as this is where the patch panel is, but his kitchen, and TV area are in the bottom part of the U.

My access point is in a far bedroom and prior to upgrading to the mesh I was getting 50mbs from a 100mb connection through the Huawei router by wireless .
When I ordered the Mesh, VF suggested upgrading the router which I ended up paying for. I don't have any regrets doing that as once I installed all the equipment and connect my PC by ethernet cable to the second mesh hub (some distance from the router), I was getting the full 100mbs speed.
This week Enable increased the speed to 300mbs and I am getting that same speed on my PC. Whether the Huawei router would achieve that, I'm not sure.
All in all, I am very pleased with the upgrade and will be sticking with VF for at least the 2 years.

cheers

Tony C.

I guess what I am asking, is, if they send out just the mesh system, do we turn of wireless on the Huawei and plug in Mesh 1 via ethernet and the second mesh unit will pair automatically, or does Mesh 1 replace the router and plug into the ONT?
