Spyware:

...Also reminds me of the atrocity of the composite out from Sky decoders being sold as "digital" by TelstraClear. Sadly I've been in the room where this technical debauchery happened.

I have too. ;-)

At the time, that was the only way to re-broadcast Sky channels on the Cable network.  Then aftern some time other technology came along and that process completely changed (check out appear.tv). This kit allowed us to recieve, decode and output the same content without touching it, over the cable network.

Things have changed now and Sky deliver Vodafone Mezz feeds @ ~20mbps, which we can turn around into an OTT profile format for VTV.

Cheers,
Grant

Happy Sunday!

Is anyone else seeing an issue where the box sometimes says "Connecting to the Internet" on top right corner after coming back from sleep? This happens to me regardless of using ethernet or WiFi. Static or DHCP, it doesn't matter...

Ideas?

Yup - yesterday as it happens - the UI was unresponsive and lacking thumbnails until a hard power-off reboot then all OK. I have a Gen 1 box. db

It could be there was a delay in getting a response from the Kaltura server.

Mine does better that that.

It had been showing that "Connecting .." message each time used but now has a new trick.

For the last 3 times it has been powered on (from standby) it :-

- flashes image of the last thing watched (1 sec)

- displays 4K snow interspersed with black screen with bursts of audio hash (analogue TV channel with no antenna)

- only responds correctly to standby (power off)

- works fine 2nd time around.

- power LED & remote i/f works so that's the main thing (no cold reboots)

The displayed snow is the only hires video I've seen from the box. Subliminal advertising for SkyTV; it's not working.

Box is only used for Netflix.

Of course this is only a trivial complaint, easy enough to power cycle several times till it works.

@sansom Do you think you could get NZ On Screen added to Vodafone TV? They have added a lot of content recently from the TVNZ archives and this would be great to watch on an app on Vodafone TV.

Vodafone support confirmed the IR frequency for the VTV remote is 38KHz. Broadlink wanted to know this. Broadlink confirmed their RM3 operates at 38KHz. However, not able to get the RM3 to correctly learn the VTV remote IR (yep - bluetooth disconnected so its only operating on IR). Onkyo learning remote learns the commands OK and tried using that to teach the RM3. No luck there either. So will flag this. Vodafone support said they'll pass on to the development team request for Google Assistant support for VTV.

There's some content from NZ On Screen in the Play Stuff app but more would be nice (I think it's newer original stuff?)

I raised this earlier in the thread, but haven't seen anyone else mention it.

Is anyone else experiencing low bit rate streams on FTA linear TV on start-up. It was intermittent previously but now this is 100% of the time for me. I turn on the box and it doesn't matter what channel I was watching before I switched it off but I'm locked on a 1,680 kbps stream which looks like sh!t. As soon as I change the channel it jumps to >6,000 kbps and the picture is fine. It remains fine until I switch off the box and switch it back on again.

For reference this is on a 200Mb UFB plan, ethernet directly to the ISP router using ISP DNS settings

Just because people with the initial 'S' should always be listened to ... while I don't pay attention to the bitrate on VTV, I've never noticed any blemishes in the picture quality. :-)
Of course, it should work, given we are Vodafone 1gig / 100meg connection and wired 100meg Ethernet to our Gen 2 VTV.
