@alasta ... I have reported here a few times that my Voda TV is working just fine, and has done for several months now.

I am in Wellington, on HFC and using Ultrahub router.

In all that time I have experienced just one glitch lately, and that was when watching a TVNZ Ondemand series ... after an advert break the stream jumped back to the beginning of the episode but simply fast-forwarding got me back to where it left off.   I suspect this one time glitch was at TVNZ's end rather than the Voda TV.

Interesting. It makes me wonder if Vodafone made a strategic mistake in promoting the device as being compatible with any ISP. If they had full control over the full transmission chain then maybe it would be more reliable.

My Beta Test version of VTV Gen2 Set Top Box is working fine on Ethernet to Asus RT AX-3000 router on Spark ISP, however my general release VTV Gen2 Set Top Box connected by WIFI to the same router is encountering a reboot required about once a day late at night when it loses the WIFI settings.

I don't know if this is useful or not, but South Park Season 23 Episode 3 recorded at 10:55pm Thursday 1st October off Comedy Central has spots where the video feed blacks out around 4:40-4:50 and 4:28. Haven't finished watching but it cuts out interesting parts of the episode.

Also, I'm presuming S23E2 hasn't been rebroadcast by Sky? I have the whole season on my recordings except that one (that's the "Band in China" one hence my guess)

Hummm ... would seem that Vodafone have fixed the authentication (aka 'Can't connect to Internet') issue - only one post so far this month. Yea! (We never got that fault.)
Perhaps @ZollyMonsta could update me (and anyone else still finding it) what is happening with the fault that stops fast-forward from working properly on some recordings? Still happens to our daily recording of 3 News at Six. 20 seconds forwards or backwards is fine (things to the person in this forum who told us that), but one touch of fast-forward (when I forget), and wham ... back to about 20-something minutes from the start. I often forget while wanting to skip forward during the weather, so the next minute or two is spent going through most of the news in 20 second jumps to get back to the weather.

Yes - it is a First World Problem, but it would be nice to know that Vodafone is planning to fix it at some time in the future.

:-)

I'm not a happy camper. I've been sold a lemon.

Dazzled by saving a few dollars and the attractiveness of a small set top box, I agreed to migrate to VTV with the recent offer made during the divorce of VFNZ and Sky. More fool me.

With the promise of a 3-day rewind, I excitedly showed my wife how we could rewind several hours on any given channel. Even if we hadn't been watching it. I flipped channels between CNN, Fox News, TV1,2 and 3, all three appeared to work as promised.

Fast forward 3 days and it's become a pipe dream. The best I can hope for now, is a rewind to the start of a program. Most cases it's between 2 and 15 minutes, regardless of the channel. If it's a movie, it's doesn't even get that *.

James Bond : Spectre is on tonight, we missed the start by 15 minutes. Unable to rewind or record. Wife says "but we can catch it up on Three Plus and record it there"........no we can't....and no we cant'. Can't record/rewind a movie AND THERE'S NO PLUS CHANNELS!     You can imagine the earful I copped.

* The disclaimer to the 3 day recording: "Recording and 3 Day Rewind available on 90% of content. Recordings are stored for a limited time".

I've been sold a crock. I think it's time to review all options, including reverting to SkyTV (wife's preference), paying their premium and getting cheaper broadband elsewhere to balance things out. Along with Netflix and Neon I have all the 'on demand' apps for NZ content on my phone, to be watched through my Chromecast.

Yes, there are limitations on what can be recorded and blockbuster movies like Spectre have the most restrictions from the content providers.

The current info on the Vodafone TV webpage indicates the limitation but it is easy to miss that the content providers don't allow access to record every program for the FTA channels:

*Recording and 3 Day Rewind available on 90% of content. Recordings are stored for a limited time.

The best method to get to the start of a playing program is to press the OK button on the remote and select "Restart" button. If that button is not displayed then AFAIK there is no ability to record or rewind the show to get back to the start.

Of course, in normal business hours there is likely to be someone more knowledgeable who may be able to help and provide more info.

You sound like the type of user that would get on very well with a Tivo Series 3 (modified for the new community EPG of course) as long as you can live without the on-demand services. There's no monthly fee, you can record and keep absolutely everything broadcasted on Freeview channels forever, you have the + channels, you can setup series passes etc. Tivos, despite being in NZ for around 10 years now, are universally loved by their owners for their ease of use, and reliability, and most would agree they're the best Freeview Recorder we've ever seen in NZ. Although the community EPG isn't faultless as its community supported, it has done well since it was implemented in October 2017. You can find out more at www.hillcrest.net.nz

Tivo upgrades to operate with the new OzTivo EPG, support and service. Over 400 performed here so far. See: www.hillcrest.net.nz

When I got a rowing machine (and actually started using it – a godsend during lockdown), the VTV Gen2 was a great solution for the tv I put in that room.  However, I still have a Tivo on my main tv and always record whatever I'm interested in on it, then just delete anything that I end up watching on the VTV.  I wouldn't want the VTV to be my only way to record.  It's too glitchy (lately it sometimes takes 2 or 3 starts before it finally connects), and, yes, you're easily caught out when you expect to be able to watch something on catch-up only to discover too late that you can't.  When it happens, it's annoying because it disrupts my plans for what to watch on the rower, but at least I know that that show will be waiting for me downstairs on the Tivo.  And then the VTV has the apps for watching online content.  It's a good combination.
