Yes, there are limitations on what can be recorded and blockbuster movies like Spectre have the most restrictions from the content providers.

The current info on the Vodafone TV webpage indicates the limitation but it is easy to miss that the content providers don't allow access to record every program for the FTA channels:

*Recording and 3 Day Rewind available on 90% of content. Recordings are stored for a limited time.

The best method to get to the start of a playing program is to press the OK button on the remote and select "Restart" button. If that button is not displayed then AFAIK there is no ability to record or rewind the show to get back to the start.

Of course, in normal business hours there is likely to be someone more knowledgeable who may be able to help and provide more info.

Pressing OK and selecting 'restart' was not an option on many channels last night, I was rather riled from the ear beating and sat and tested them. Recording of any programs (not just premium blockbuster material) across TV1, TV2 and THREE last night, wasn't a possibility either.

I'd go so far as to suggest that a '3-day rewind' was not an option across the board between 8pm and midnight. With the notable exception of Parliament TV, no channel would rewind beyond 40 minutes (or the start of the show), although the counter stopped counting back at 4 hours. Not sure where the "90% of content" claim comes from.

* The disclaimer to the 3 day recording: "Recording and 3 Day Rewind available on 90% of content. Recordings are stored for a limited time".

I've been sold a crock. I think it's time to review all options, including reverting to SkyTV (wife's preference), paying their premium and getting cheaper broadband elsewhere to balance things out. Along with Netflix and Neon I have all the 'on demand' apps for NZ content on my phone, to be watched through my Chromecast.

You sound like the type of user that would get on very well with a Tivo Series 3 (modified for the new community EPG of course) as long as you can live without the on-demand services. There's no monthly fee, you can record and keep absolutely everything broadcasted on Freeview channels forever, you have the + channels, you can setup series passes etc. Tivos, despite being in NZ for around 10 years now, are universally loved by their owners for their ease of use, and reliability, and most would agree they're the best Freeview Recorder we've ever seen in NZ. Although the community EPG isn't faultless as its community supported, it has done well since it was implemented in October 2017. You can find out more at www.hillcrest.net.nz

The Tivo option wouldn't give us the Sky channels that we enjoy (notably foreign news options and the Discovery/History/Geographic suite), so not an option. Nice try though. Like VTV it'd come close, but is missing the mark in some critical areas for this household.

For me, I'm able to stream almost anything I want and be satisfied. But for others in the household, if it's not the Sky remote or on YouTube, it's a hard sell.

Idea for a new function, "Movie Cloud" when enabled it will automatically "Record" every movie on Freeview automatically into Cloud storage.

It won't make up for the lack of "primetime movies" being recordable however. But it would give a "on demand" type appearence for movies

I would rather they fixed this bug fest before adding anything new.

I think they get that piece of marketing from the fact that a lot of the sky content CAN be recorded, however if you never intend to use sky/want to record freeview mainly, you're not gonna find much outside of Shortland St and maybe the news. It should really be "Record 90% of content* *90% of content from Sky TV channels" (it might actually say that on the box, I haven't looked at the box in a long time)

Looking at the current list of Freeview channels (half-way down this page: https://www.vodafone.co.nz/tv/vodafone-tv/ ), there are heaps of channels I never watch. Perhaps most of them are recordable, making up for the ones we do watch that are not recordable.

Doesn't help really ...

I have had a couple of these Gen2 devices installed (which replaced my good old reliable - and rejigged - TiVo) for a number of months now.

Aside from some picture-freezing issues a couple of months ago, which seem to have been resolved, I have been mostly enjoying the experience.

Unfortunately over the last couple of weeks one of the devices has been becoming more and more difficult to turn on via the remote. And last night refused all attempts to use any of the other buttons after I finally managed to get it to turn on. It wouldn't even respond to the power button to turn it off again.

The batteries are new - replaced four days ago (just in case).

The light on the front of the unit stubbornly stays red, instead of turning white...

I have tried the tried and true troubleshooting method of turning it off and on again (before someone suggests it!)

The other device - in the lounge - seems to be working as designed (hope I haven't just jinxed it by stating that!)

Have you paired the remote using bluetooth, or are you still using infrared. Also do you have any other bluetooth devices that may be interfering?

We're on Vodafone HFC in Christchurch using the Ultra Hub. (so pure Vodafone setup)

We have a Gen 1 in the lounge that's direct connected to the Ultra Hub via Ethernet. It works well, next to no problems.

The Gen 2 in the bedroom is connected via Wifi. When ever the bedroom unit has been turned off, and you turn it on, it won't play the channel saying 'Your Vodafone TV cannot play the content as the connection was lost" However once you change the channel it works.

Where as the hardwired Gen1 in the lounge doesn't have this issue

I rebooted the ultra hub last night and it has been working fine since then, but also refreshed my memory a bit by searching / going back in the thread and found out that VTV doesn't like automatic / changing 5ghz channels / or certain 5ghz channels

Have set a fixed channel now and will see if it keeps working.

Funnily enough Vodafone have a warning on their website to use the auto setting for ultra hub because they know best 🙄

I know the answer to this is probably staring me right in my face but I cannot find the answer. Does anyone know how on earth does one cancel this service? I have checked the VTV  web site, gone through my account area and cannot see how. Adding and deleting packages yes but all out cancel I have no idea. Any help would be gratefully accepted.

you have to cancel all your added services first. After you have canceled them it will then let you cancel start up.

Thanks for the tip @rugrat that worked. The VTV is headed to storage in the garage. I wanted to put it on our drive and run over it multiple times with the car but my wife wouldn’t let me.
