Do you think later in the future telecom will allow connections on a phone line that was previously connect, in other words, connecting NDSL to a disconnected phone line.

Guess it depends, if it was disconnected and you are in trouble through telecom for not paying your bills then probably not.
Otherwise if it's just a dead line that hasn't been used yet, you can go to Xnet with one of their numbers I think?

I've got 6-8 days remaining till mine gets hooked back up with nDSL through Xnet, just had my old Xnet plan changed and telecom have customerlinked my number so i can switch it over, luckily I have the net at work, otherwise I'd go totally crazy without it, it's pretty good not having a phone at home at the moment though, no one to interrupt me through dinner or while watching TV

I have moved across the ditch.  Now residing in Melbourne as a VOIP/Video Technical Trainer/Engineer.

No as it's not so much the physicial phone line this can be reused for naked DSL at anytime, it is actually the Phone Number, if you cancel it, it will go back into the pool which can then be reallocated at a later date

Thats just goes to show what a 3rd world country this is in terms of internet, as every other country who offers NDSL including aussie can connect NDSL to a phone line that hasn't had a physcial phone connection for some time.
Telecom really need to upgrade their entire system if they want to be in the compititive market, they aint going to get any where doing this, I say sell AAPT and concentrate on Telecom NZ, AAPT is just losing Telecom too much money.

So if I have an unused second line wired into the house, I cant get a brand new ndsl connection provisioned on it without getting a phone number connected first and then changing to ndsl?

I think that you have missed the point here. You will be able to connect a nDSL line into a building that has not had a working line for some time. What you will not be able to do is connect a nDSL line with WorldxChange and pick up your old, and now disconnected, Telecom number. In that situation you will need a new WorldxChange number.

The same thing applies in the Mobile space. You can take your Vodafone number to Telecom and vice versa (to a point), but you cannot get a new 027 number connected on Vodafone nor a new 021 number on Telecom.

I've sent him a PM regarding this and previous posts. Trolling is strongly discouraged here on geekzone.

You can connect Naked DSL to the Line , what you can't do is get the old Phone Number that used to be on that line as it may have been reallocated to another customer if you cancel your phone line you lose that number...just the number not the physical copper line.

Also Telecom are spending a lot of money on their network in upgrading it to support next generation services, some of these products are actually coming on line now and will be available to wholesale customers too deliver their products and services, they are pushing out a Fibre Cabinet Plan (Big thread on this in Geekzone Wink) as well as Fibre to the Home for new subdivisons, Telecom have changed their attitudes over the last few years (might have agreed with you 4 or 5 years ago Laughing)they seem to be now looking forward to a new era with operational seperation and actually engage the rest of the industry in constructive talks on the future of the Telecom Next Gen Network, Appreciate your support for us Jay but I actually believe you are being a bit harsh.

well that would have saved a lot of space on here had someone read my origanl post about it properly.
I asked in the original post are we able to connect NDSL to a phone line that was previously connected but now disconnected and the answer was no, but now it seems the answer is yes.
I don't care about who has who's numbers connected as VoIP, thats not a concern, I just wanted to know if NDSL can be connected to a copper line that had it's number disconnected months before hand.
in other words like this

connected land  line>3 months later disconnected line> 8 months later>NDSL>ABC company's VoIP

or can it only be

Connected line>customer link>Disconnect phone line>add NDSL>port old telecom number as VoIP

If both can happen then that is going to save people a lot of money

The first situation is true if you don't have a phone number, or don't want to port your exisiting providers number across.

The second is true if you want to keep your exisiting number and minimise the potential downtime.

Well thats was me btw Jay, I thought I had replied correctly by saying the line could be used for naked DSL but no worries I should have made myself clearer, maybe next time Wink

And the answer to your 2 questions are yes to both

My nDSL is online.
Not perfect yet though, my modem is syncing with fullspeed up, but my upload still seems to be limited to 128k. Interleaving has also returned. Will be ringing Xnet tomorrow to get that sorted if it doesn't fix itself overnight. Then hopefully by Friday my landline number will be ported to VFX.
When it's all done, it'll be time to go for a streak. Wink

Big thanks to Evon at Xnet, she's been really helpful.

Thats a fast 8 - 10 days!

My highspeed is back on now, I know were not supposed to troll - but.......it took telecom about 30 hours to enable adsl at their end.  ADSL was already installed on my phone at the exchange etc.  I'm sorry, but come on, no wonder not very many people like them or their service!

I am still over the moon at the fack Xnet gave me a gial up connection to use while this was being sorted out, even though it wasn't xnets problem or fault.  Also, my VFX line worked on dial up - i couldn't use the computer for anything while i was on a phone call, but so what, I was using VoIP on a dial up connection!

Hopefully, touch wood, when I change to nADSL there wont be a repeat........touch wood again for good luck..

When converting from a traditional POTS-DSL config to a Naked DSL config, doesn't a tech have to visit the exchange to remove the pair from the POTS equipment, if so, then 30 hours could be seen as very reasonable, given that its just the end of the holiday season and everyones coming back to work.
