JaBZ:

Will 2 Vodafone tv boxes allow 1 account login with the Sky App, and seperate channels on both, in the same household?

Are the Discovery, History, Nat Geo channels in HD and not potato quality (SD)?

I saw references to 4K, which channels (inc SKY) are in 4K? or is the box simply upscaling to 4K?  or is there no 4K at all and I mis interpreted?

thanks..

1 account, same channel package on both.

Those channels are as Sky supplies them for sat service, so SD unfortunately. Discovery is being upgraded to HD on Oct 8.

No 4K unless via Netflix.

thanks, I should clarify, can both boxes show independent Sky channels? i.e. Movies in living room VTV box 1, Sports in bedroom VTV box 2.

Like multiroom without the $25 additional cost..

ttaotua: If you have more then one VTV in the same house, do both devices need their own sky subscription?

Vodafone TV works on the concept of "household" (=account) and all subscriptions, like SKY, are against the household. This means that:

  • If you have more than one VTV set-top box, they all share the same SKY subscriptions.
  • If you record something, it is available on all your devices (set-top boxes and mobile). Big benefit of cloud PVR.
  • If you start watching something on one device, you can continue on another device and it knows your last watching position

Noting that we have not yet officially launched support for multi-room (multiple set-top boxes). Coming very soon!

This is a game changer!!!

I've currently got a VTV unit in the lounge for the main TV and a non VTV solution for the secondary TV.

If VTV units on one account can share everything... then I'll probably order another unit.

@olof was just talking to the technical capability, for multiple connections to the same household with Sky we will have to pass on the Sky multiroom cost.  However, while Sky charge $45/mth for each multiroom MySky+ box, we will be able to pass on each multiroom box at the entry price ($25/mth) with a limit of 5 boxes (as we store recordings to the cloud).  Note that Sky has this pricing structure for a good reason: if there was no multiroom limit Sky would suddenly find most of NZ would be running a multiroom off just a few accounts loaded with all the channels!

So I got a second box but how do I add it the site doesn't allow me to add a second device?

You are absolutely correct, we do not yet support multi-room for VodafoneTV with the Gen2 box. This is coming really soon (weeks).

In the meantime, I have DM-ed you with suggestion on how we can help you work around this!

I like the sound of being able to wind-back live-streaming FTA TV by up to three hours.

It's actually up to three days, not hours..  If the channel/programme allows it.

Yes - of course you’re right. Mis-remembered it. Very cool.

Sometimes I just sit and think. Other times I just sit.

I'm keen to beta test new software on Gen 1 hardware?

I assume via firmware file copied to usb stick ? or OTA device targetted download?

Does this mean I can buy a couple of these, unbolt my ugly satellite dish, stop renting clunky Pace boxes, forget about rain fade and still pay subscribe and watch everything I ever watched on Sky, all sports movies Rialto etc?

Thanks for the suggestion.  We'll ask Mediaworks the best way to get the The Edge onto VTV and see what we can do.

Thanks, the Apple TV ver of the ThreeNow app looks almost the same as the VTV one apart from having an additional tab for livestreams so you can stream all their channels incl The Edge TV

Short answer: Yes!

Slightly longer answer: you mention a couple of boxes, so please be aware that VTV multiroom functionality won't be released for a couple of weeks.   Refer the earlier post from @olof on what multiroom on VTV will deliver (basically shared Sky subscriptions and cloud recordings across all boxes), and my post on the pricing ($25/mth/box).  In the meantime you can still set up the 2nd box on Freeview, but setting up with Sky would require all packages to be doubled up... so I suggest you wait before adding Sky to a second box.

Bought one of these today.  Setup was pretty quick and painless - except for pairing the remote via Bluetooth.  I have followed the instructions on screen, and also unplugged (restarted the box) and removed the batteries from the remote and also reset the remote as per the VTV Help but I can't get it to pair via Bluetooth. Any tips on what to do here?

It should just be a case of holding the yellow+3 buttons for a couple of seconds until the red light flashes on the remote's power button, then let go.

If you go to Settings->connected devices->remote control->remote status it will then tell you if it has paired / re-paired successfully.

Yep tried all that but no success. The red light flashes (both on the remote and the VFTV and then it stops and it still tells me to pair it. When I click on remote status it says it’s using infrared to control your Vodafone TV.

Spent 50 minutes this evening on the phone with Vodafone. They couldn’t work out why it’s not pairing either and have escalated it. They will call back tomorrow after investigating further. If they can’t get it working I’ll get Noel Leeming to swap it for another.

Did you manage to solve this, on my device its doing the same thing, can't get it to pair (took out batteries, reset it, etc...) - wonder if its a software bug?

Not yet. Tech support called last night for more fault diagnosis. No resolution. They are referring to developers. They are going to call again today to advise where this is at. My intention is to return the box tomorrow if not resolved today. The support team have said that they want the box to do testing on.

Thank you. Vodafone website says there may be limitations on length of time content can be saved? What about On Demand or Catch Up capabilities?
