Cheers for that. I'm already using VFX with a Pukekohe number - I guess I can't have it both ways - if I do as you suggest it will be a toll call from Pukekohe to Pukekohe..

I estimate I would need to make 800 minutes worth of calls to Auckland to break even. Must have a look at my Telstra invoice

OK, here's another suggestion:

Sign up for a second VFX connection using an Auckland billing address. You would need a second ATA but would then have both Pukekohe and Auckland local numbers available, thus giving you the best of both worlds

Extra cost would be $11.25 per month because this would be a separate account without an Xnet connection as part of the bundle. It shouldn't take too long to recover that if you make a reasonable number of calls into Auckland each month.

No puke to puke is local calling for the puke area if you call from puke to akld then it's a toll call.

Bsicly Aucklands local calling areas are

Warkworth's local calling is all numbers starting with 422,423,425,4312,4314,4315 (outside this number is a toll call)

Helensville is numbers staring with 420 (outside this number is a toll call)

Hibicus coast is numbers starting with 424,426,427,428 (outside this number is a toll call)

Great Barrier is numbers starting with 429 (outside this number is a toll call)

Auckland is all numbers beginning with 3,5,6,8,25,26,27,29,41,44,47,48 (North to south Albany to Papakura) (east to west Piha-Muriwai to Waiheke Island (outside Auckland local calling number is a toll call)

Pukekohe Local calling numbers starting with 23 (outside this number is a toll call)

Starspangle, the comment about to Puke to Puke being a toll call was if the local number for the VFX connection was assigned in the Auckland local calling area.

Us Pukekohe residents sure get ripped!! There is at least 3 of us that I know of now that are Geekoners.

Was just talking to WXC and was told there may be some new call plans in the near future which will assist those of us "down south".

Telecom charge $19.95 per month for unlimited caling, Telstra Clear don't with Big Back Yard which is what we use.

To go to Fusion would save me about $40 a month - so thats' about 800 minutes calling into Auckland. Wonder how long that would last my wife..

I see you get a local number . . . but are local calls free or charged at 0.05 per min?

Local Calls are definitely free unless you have 3 or more VFX lines (which is classified as a business account). It does say it somewhere, but I agree, it doesn't immediately jump out at you

A friend of mine, who is a current Xnet ADSL customer, is considering switching to Fusion. Now I got these questions:
1. Will he keep his ADSL-login or will he be given a new one?
2. Will he keep his static IP address, which he was assigend after he requested port 25 to be unblocked in order to use third-party-SMTP service?
3. Does he need to cancel his landline rental with Telstra or will Xnet do it with the number-porting?

router: AVM Fritz!Box Fon 7390 with Huawei K3765 USB modem attached as GSM voice gateway

This is the info I got:

Same login :) Mines staying the same on my router etc
Mines switching on this Monday although Xnet are giving me free fullspeed till then because of a bit of a muck up on telecoms part which resulted in me losing phone/adsl for 7 days :S

2. Will he keep his static IP address, which he was assigend after he requested port 25 to be unblocked in order to use third-party-SMTP service?
Does he pay the $9.95 a month? if so then yes he should, that means if he's going phone or data only:
data only 59.95 + $9.95 for the IP
phone only 69.96 + 9.95 for the IP

3. Does he need to cancel his landline rental with Telstra or will Xnet do it with the number-porting?
Xnet says they do the number porting and close it off for you, but they do tell you to ring 7 days after it's all changed over just for peace of mind that the old company has actually cancelled it. Basically you should get a final bill within days of the Xnet porting the number....I think I might frame my Telecom final bill, hopefully it'll be the last time I have to use them :)

Okay, thanks for that.

Actually my friend doesn't need a static IP, but only port 25 to be open. So I hope Xnet can open it for Fusion customers without additional costs.
Now I hope we can get a FritzBox Fon work with VFX, since I'm experiencing a problem with that.

Well I can say Telecom really screwed up with my NDSL, here's the story

I have two phone lines in my house, one was disconnected about 2 months ago, which left one active.
I called xNet to change to NDSL on my active line, Telecom said yes we can do that on Friday Jan 11th.
Was put off til Monday Jan 14th, I still had no NDSL at 3p on that day, called xNet they say it's completed, I explaind I still have a dial tone, they put a fault thru to telecom to check it out, telecom say "we'll fix it on tuesday 15th" on tuesday I still had dial tone, called xNet again, put another fault thru, telecom say's "we'll look into it and gurantee iot will be fixed by 3pm Jan 16th"
Well 3.30pm Jan 16th, hello still got a dial tone, called xNet yet again to see whats going on, another fault to telecom, telecom says "well have it all up and running by 3pm on jan 17th" well 10.15 this morning my landline is disconnected and left with an engaged signal.
Call xNet again to see whats happening, get told telecom must be still connecting it, thought to my self "fine I'll wait even longer, the at 1.15pm this afternoon I'm raging because I still can't access the net, I thought to my self "hmmm I'll plug the router into the old line" and what do you know there's my NDSL on the line that was disconnected 2 months ago, called xNet to complain yet again, they said they will talk to Prov about it, 10 mins later I'm calling again to say leave it on the line it's on now, I'll call telecom and cancel my landline.
Called Telecom to cancel the phone, they say it was disconnected this morning due to NDSL, and that just got my going, I have to go mental at them for screwing up my connection,.
Turns out that yes telecom did connect my NDSL on Monday 14th Jan but to the WRONG line.

man that sounds pretty odd, was the disconnected line actually the main line going into the house? and the other line using the second set of cables in the telecom box? it sounds as though the tech somehow got his wires crossed

No the main line was the one the was connected over a year ago, the second line I had installed becuase rthe 2nd set of wires were being used by another unit, so the had to install the 2nd wires from scratch and thats the line they put my NDSL on

I tell you telecom is very sly, they have now put my NDSL on the correct line after I called xNet to have it left where it was.
My router had sync at 12000/1000kbps on the wrong line and when I did a speed test it was 9500/876kbps now they have put it on the right line I'm only getting 9662/925kbps (Transfer rate 1207/115) I want it back on the other line as the line it's self is better quality and the speed is better.
Telecom screwed up why couldn't they just leave it in stead of fixing the damn thing I was happier with the 1st speed of 12000kbps
