Has anyone noticed their VTV device dropping down quality in the evenings?

Often free to air channels 1,2,3 stream in HD, usually around 6500kbps, but during some evenings lately I’m noticing this drop as low as 1500kbps , and obvious degradation in picture quality.

I’m on gigabit fibre and still able to max out Speedtests, so I suspect it is not a local connection issue, as plenty of bandwidth available.

No updates available for the VTV box, any other thoughts?

It could be one of the skinny interconnects. Be interesting if any other Skinny customer is experiencing issues.

Only can be used in NZ.

Anyone notice that you can't buy these anymore? Seems everyone has sold out of them. Are they bringing in a new model?

Yes, this is the gist of the discussion in the last three to five pages.

Walked past the Queensgate store and couldn't see any VTV advertising where its normally been, just the TV there doing nothing otherwise.

The gist of past discussion is that its EOL, especially with Sky TV bringing out their own Android based streaming/satellite box soon.

Thanks. That kind of sucks because I have helped a lot of people set them up where they have poor UHF coverage including some elderly, and have several myself. Will be interesting to see what happens. I was just about to buy one for someone and help them get it working. I may have to revert back to tivo full time again, which still works since being chipped.

If the service prematurely ends, I wonder if existing users will be able to return to their stores for a refund. Or whether sky will swap them out for the android one, if they have a freeview version of the service. I feels like it could be igloo and tivo situation all over again where consumers lose out. Although I think igloo eventually provided a  patch to download to still allow it to work, just no EPG, which wouldn't be great.

Tautoko your thoughts.
Very sad that I can't find anything from Vodafone on the topic. Makes me wonder if @JasonParis has tossed in the Customer Service towel. In our case, still generally good Internet at a great price, but when we had a problem in September, no meaningful interaction. After I tried patiently for three weeks, I'm told the problem was 'Something in my network' that fixed itself at exactly the same time I sent a very strongly worded email. to Mr Paris' office. No problems since that email.

Yes - we have got used to the VTV interface, as have others I've carefully coached into it (hint: "Where ever you are, pressing 'Menu' will get you back to where you know!") Love the Bluetooth remote!
If the service ends it would be very interesting to see what the ComCom has to say. I hope they will protect us from that fate.

We like recording (particularly when the 'recording' is streamed to us). Limits options. Can get MythTV going better, or buy one of these: https://www.dishtv.co.nz/A2 if they come back in stock.

If VF are canning the service it's certainly typical of the industry. They having been claiming the devices are temporarily unavailable due to supply constraints, their silence is deafening.

Here is a crazy notion, lets give peace a chance.

Any modern tv with apps that can support an iptv .m3u playlist can use the freeview .m3u that are out there. They use the same streams as the official freeview android stb

Of course they are not the same quality as vodatvs official offering.. I don't think user will be let down by vodafone there will be an official offer of some sort people shouldn't panic at this stage

In any case i do have backup copys of most of the vodafone tv  .bin firmwares
