shrub: Had a telstra/vodafone door knocker 2 days ago and he had nothing to offer me it was really weird? he asked what plan i was on (telecom 150) and he said they cant beat that price... I'm in a cable area and house is already wired for it (previous owner) why cant you beat the telecom 150 plan with the cable?

You've got to wonder what the point of having door knockers is at the moment if they can't offer competitive plans - there might be the odd person on a grandfathered plan with another ISP that could potentially be made better off, but virtually all of the current offerings of major ISPs are sharper than TCL Cable plans. Im an extreme example, but I told the door-knocker that visited me about my unlimited plan with Orcon and he buggered off straight away.

That said, I know that for houses already wired for cable, they offer no minimum term and no connection fee (if you ask for it) so they are actually the best option for short-term internet needs.

I had a Telecom door knocker come by and offer me the 500GB plan for $99 versus $119, free installation and modem with first month free. That was tempting it I am going to see what Vodafone offers in terms of plan rationalization with cable first.

Staying in Wellington. Check out my AirBnB in the Wellington CBD.  https://www.airbnb.co.nz/h/wellycbd  PM me and mention GZ to get a 15% discount and no AirBnB charges.

The latest piece of mail from TCL/VF/Telefone suggests there won't be anything fresh for a few more months at least.

$60 cheaper for the 150 Gig plan - sweet!

Not enough data to make me get it but i hope it means theyre going to introduce a few more plans with more data allowance...

Competition is good!

Just curious what you mean by 'competition is good'.

The vodafone acquisition of Telstraclear has removed a significant amount of competition from the market but made the combined VF/TCL comany bigger and so able to get more economies of scale.

So what you should treally be saying is "oligopolies are good!"

The price for the plan i used to be on has dropped by $60.
I am not sure how anyone can say that is bad for the consumer?

nobody did say that.

You said 'competition is good' but I pointed out that with the VF acquisition of TCL there is now LESS competition in the market.  In other words, increased competition is not the reason for it dropping.

True - sorry i misunderstood your point.

However I do think that Voda will be more active in trying to compete with Telecom to pick up a bigger slice of the broadband pie and the fact that the prices have dropped so drastically already is a good sign for the future - and does show there is more competition - even if there are technically less players in the market.

Looks like some sharp pricing, although they haven't (as far as I can see) explained the difference between lightspeed and warpspeed (of course us geeks already know!)

"Pricing valid for new customers signing up to InHome from 1 April 2013."

Surely this cannot be true?

I rang earlier and got the new pricing and arranged for a new modem for WarpSpeed.

Call and ask to change your existing plan. They will do it for you (I've just done it).

Of course if you are in a term contract then it's another story.

just swapped from telecom/sky to vodafone inhome install date not till 15th tho :( .
$183 for tbox 2nd decoder, basic + sport. 150gig warpspeed and no phone line not a bad price considering i was paying $220 for the the same with a phone. I have been paying way to much for a phone that never rang anyway so its gone.
