I just hopped over to Geekzone to see if there was any news on gigabit.

This is better news than I could have imagined.

DjShadow:

@mikehales can you please advise what cable modem/router you are supplying with DOCSIS 3.1? If a router will it have Bridge Mode?

It's a Technicolour 4400. In bridge mode (only; the modem doesn't have routing functionality).

They'll be being supplied with the same RGW supplied for Vodafone's UFB connections (Huawei HG659).

now this is a move i certainly support, a shame they wasted so much on the rollout of that horrid router/modem..

Saw your note, working on confirming modem/router info.

Soon as I can.

Wouldn't be nice if Vodafone just upgraded their current base of loyal customers as a thank you for sticking with us over the bad time and ditch the 24 month lock-in. I haven't checked to confirm the lock-in but surely that way Vodafone would get real brownie points and be seen as a great corporate player and make people want to stay.

Bit sad really I think I'll hang on will the old speed till fibre arrives and base it on the best offering at the time.

Just noticed, only 100mbit up? rather asymmetric to be announcing it as equal to UFB.

Move to New Zealand's best fibre broadband service (affiliate link). Free setup code: R587125ERQ6VE. Note that to use Quic Broadband you must be comfortable with configuring your own router.

Crazy that we still have 100/10 ..shouldnt it at least be upgraded to 100/20 inline with UFB?

Let's wait for the first real world customer to post a speedtest on this new offering ( please use Ethernet)

I'm guessing as part of this we won't get to keep our Static IP?

Id give it a month of fine sailing before we would expect to see the networks actual performance.

do remember that there are large differences between the ufb 100/10 and ufb 100/20 outside of purely the baseline rate.

also they are still not inline with the chorus gbit product as that is 1000/500 not 1000/100.

There is a thread where people with Technicolour Routers have had their Static IP changed to DHCP

You should have been emailed if you were affected.
