I've been thinking about ditching Vodafone HFC for awhile now, and switching to UFB, but meh effort. I read this with interest, right up till "24 month term" then it became a big #nope.

24 month term, no thanks. These should be consigned to history.

@mikehales can you please advise what cable modem/router you are supplying with DOCSIS 3.1? If a router will it have Bridge Mode?

Does it actually run over fibre or are they trying to confuse people by calling it FibreX?

Runs over Fibre to a point but the last leg of the connection is Coax Cable

"Hybrid Firbe Coaxial"

Its a thick copper core. No optic fibre. The Fibre part of the name refers to the node being fed by it.

Its a fancy way to say, Fibre to the last mile or the Node or curb or what ever.

That's what I thought, feels like they're trying to blend in with UFB really..

Why not just call it Gigabit Cable..

Because Cable has got such a sterling reputation over the last few years, at a guess :D

They are trying to distance themselves from the previous name and obfuscate things for people at a guess. Same as how they tried to call the Cable network UFB.

That diagram is of a traditional HFC network, the Huawei D-CMTS augment is driving the fibre deeper into the network e.g. nodes to the level of the RF amplifiers.

So effectively 10 times the speed for an extra $10. If they can keep the performance up.

Wonder if this upgrade is why out in Miramar the last few weeks have been hitting 100/10 speed all day.

I assume VF keep all revenue from this...whereas UFB a large portion goes to Chorus?
