I liked the old (analogue?) decoders when they sold them, back in the early 2000s. Rock solid with 0 problems.

The T-Box software still contains the bug where it will happily schedule 3 programmes to be recorded at the same time, failing the last one that starts recording. This occurs when the EPG creates a new reminder based on a show with linked episodes.

For example:

I had reminders set for "Better off Ted" at 08:00pm Friday and "The Inbetweeners" for 08:35pm Friday. I'm using 5 minute padding, but still no conflict as only 2 shows.

Until 2 or 3 weeks ago I had a linked reminder for "Ice Pilots". Pretty sure this was Monday nights or early Tuesday. Certainbly not Friday. The links stopped at what I presume was the end of the season. However the EPG and T-Box are smart - real smart. Unnoticed by me, a linked reminder was set for a new time-slot: 19:30 Fridays. And it's a 1 hour show. Due to padding, that created an overlap at 08:30pm Friday. Therefore "The Inbetweeners" failed "due to a schedule conflict".

It's kind of nice that the T-Box knew I liked "Ice Pilots", but should it have created a linked-series in a new time slot? I think as a general rule it's a bad thing. It'd be cool if I was given a message telling me a new series had started in a new slot, and given me the option of deleting one of the reminders it was in conflict with. Certainly not rocket science to do that.

In the short term I don't believe the T-Box should ever shift a weekly recording so that it causes other reminders to fail. Thought I was being very careful in reviewing conflicts as I'd run into this problem many times previously, but I'll just have to review the reminders even more carefully ...

jasonwaiheke: Why when T-Box is TC's take on MySky or Tivo, did they not look more carefully at what Sky and Tivo did well and what they did not so well before realeasing thier own version? I mean from the time they released MySky / Tivo till the time TC annouced the release of T-Box, would have given them ample time but given the time then to actually release it (T-Box) it would have given them even more than enough time to iron out any bugs, escpecially since the release date got moved out an out.

I could not say if it is a hardware problem or a software problem, but given there has been numerous box replacements for disgruntled subscribers and they continue to have issues, that it would not be a hardware problem unless thier was a batch issue. It sounds like a software issue, we have had one release since i got T-Box and it has not made a difference to anything i had going on with T-Box that i did not like, how about a proper release and fix it up.

My gripe issues are as follows, and i would be interested to know if i am on my own or if they are shared by others out there;

1. the response time is slow, from when you push a button, to when it happens

2. no matter what channel you leave it on at night, whn you wake up it is on channel one, this is annoying as i leave it set for the kids, but they dont watch channel one, this occured after the recent software upgrade

3. you enter a channel number it shows then you get black screen, then you get the banner, then you get black screen then comes the programme.

4. occasionally there comes a need to re-boot as it freezes, and a reboot takes like 15 minutes!

possibly would not have got T-Box free or not if i had known about these.

TC and others feedback welcome.

The next release is a lot more responsive and quicker, but as Clive says, it's unlikely to arrive during the RWC.
I've never noticed the channel defaulting overnight to one, or any other for that matter.

One thing that has become clear to me while I've been watching the US Open tennis these last two weeks, is how useful it would be if the TBOX could adjust the recording time to compensate for event-overuns as MySKY can apparently do.
With the two day rain delay that the US Open tennis has had, the schedule is messed up, and i've missed out on some games despite booking multiple non-tennis programs back to back to replace the missing official tennis programs in the GUIDE. Can we expect the TBOX to eventually handle these sorts of events or are we missing out because SKY does not issue the updates to TelstraClear often enough?

Enhancement suggestion: EPG guide option to see the dates & times that "repeat" screenings of prog episodes would be showing and the option to then choose which specific prog's date time to record. The old Decoder had this option, but currently have to scroll through EPG pages until come across another screening of show required.

Totally agree with that. It was a useful feature that meant I didn't end up recording the same show twice.

Had my first T-Box Crash (since the software upgrade) on Friday night. Of course it happened right in the lead-up to Tonga scoring their try against the All Blacks :(.

I was watching the Rugby live, and there were two programs recording back to back on another channel. I'm pretty sure the crash occurred at the time the first program was scheduled to finish recording. The TV screen went black, the audio stopped, and the blue light on the T-Box would not respond to remote control key presses. I waited several minutes, nothing changed. I tried changing channel and various other controls but there was still no response to the remote, so I rebooted.

Gary, isn't this one of the issues that was supposed to be fixed in the last update? It seems more like a bug, than a performance issue which the next update is addressing.

Really don't want this to happen in the more important games as the RWC progresses...

It's sometimes surprisingly difficult to debug software when you attempt to replicate the error symtoms while you have debugging traces and loggers activated, as these tend to alter the real-time conditions of the device you are testing with.

There is no satisfactory answer to this. Any decent development team would treat crash bugs as show-stoppers. That is, you don't release until they are fixed.

Ok, just come across a puzzler:
in the PLANNER, I have an entry that was auto created by SERIAL link for the US OPEN tennis @ Tuesday 0830 for 240 minutes.
But in the GUIDE, it shows the following programs: no program information 0800-0830, Fox Sports morning news 0830-0900, AFL replay 0900-1200.

Is the SERIAL link information taken from a different database than the GUIDE ?

I suppose I will have to reboot at a convenient time to force the GUIDE to update so I can book the program after the tennis in case it overruns by more than 10 minutes...

Wow, nearly a week and no comments? We do seem to be looking fairly good now, small short slowdowns, and yes, overnight change to channel 1. I haven't had anything recording through the night, but would it change even if I was recording I wonder?

Silence does not indicate satisfaction. Doesn't seem much point raising the old chestnuts when we know a major update is in the pipeline. Curse the rugby (for many reasons), but I assume that is why TCL is not releasing the performance update.

Yet again I've removed a programme from my reminders because it recorded so many repeats. It should be possible to record South Park without getting 3 recordings daily. I'm with Eric on what he'd have to say about this. I really do watch considerably less TV since I got my T-Box. That could be seen as a good thing, but I'm sure it wasn't the intention of TCL when they released the T-Box.

There now - you got me going again ;-)

Sorry to get you going!@ I can confirm that TC are not going to release another update during the Rugby World Cup 2011. Yes, we have noticed that a series recording for a programme seems also to record replays of the same episode. Don't think I have raised that one before.
