I would possibly consider this if they had an ad free option that I could pay for vs losing interest in watching what I want to see because of ad's before it. Since its digital and they know who is watching they should be able to make an ad free ondemand service.

I would be quite keen on this, but I imagine there would be a lot of commercial detail that they would have to work through with Mediaworks and it may just be too hard.

I purchased one of these over the weekend. The setup was a piece of cake and took about five minutes. Everything is going fine. I do have one question, is there anyway to adjust or customise the home screen?

But I don't know whether it's Gen 1 or Gen 2 and I don't really want to open the box - if I don't need it I'd rather just taken it back to the retail shop and return it. Then maybe they can send it to someone who needs it.

Why I want to know which one: only the Gen 2 is useful for me as my TV is on the other side of the wall from the ethernet and I need Wireless. TBH the VTV proposition is marginal for me anyway as I already have an AppleTV, rarely need more than the On Demand apps, and we are not current Sky subscribers - but who knows - maybe we'll like cloud rewind or maybe we'll get a Sky channel for a month or two one of these days.

How do I tell? The box I have received says "copyright 2017" on the outside, and the serial number starts with"619134...".

Not currently. We are looking at a recommendations engine that will tailor the home screen based on your viewing history. But your proposal is interesting. Instead of an automatic algorithmic adjustment of the home screen, you'd like the ability to tune the home screen yourself?

From reading all the forum posts it clearly hits a sweet spot for some!

It would be great if one could edit the theme and customers the GUI colours and have the ability to adjust the layout of menus and shortcuts.

Ha! touche... this is geekzone so I thought I was safe with that last comment you quoted! I'm now left wondering who the "other" set top box is? Is it Apple TV, because, if so, then OK I understand. Otherwise I need to know who this other set top box is?!

Yes, but the reason Vodafone must preserve ads on the free-to-air channels it that this is how they make money. If we were to strip all advertising from these channels then their revenues would be impacted (as measured by Nielsen) and the free-to-air channels would then withdraw their permission for us to re-transmit their channels via IP. I don't understand how "it's digital" affects this?

I can fast forward the adds faster then the MySky box.
I go 3.5 minutes to 4 minutes and if just a little before program don’t worry about it.
Takes me 5 to 10 seconds, just do it by time as no thumb nails. The fast forwarding seems pretty smooth and picture comes up quickly when press play.

Free to air model is adds, but it would be nice if catchup/recordings took adds out of Sky Channels like Discovery etc. Probably be a big cost to implement though.

We are only able to offer IP delivery and catch up on the free to air channels by agreement with TVNZ, Mediaworks, Maori TV, Top TV (HGTV & Choice), Aljazeera etc. So, while it would be nice to take ads out, it's not possible given that's how these channels pay their bills, make their money, and sign off on agreements with Telcos like Vodafone. To be clear, the agreements with these channels specifically prevent Vodafone from stripping or modifying the advertising and any other content within the live stream.

Oh - just an AppleTV, as you thought. We have simple needs: no Smart TV (thankfully) just an AppleTV and a Nintendo Switch connected to our modest old LG HD panel at the moment, and very rarely a laptop.
