MikeB4:

Anyone experiencing absolutely terrible speed today?

Download speeds below 100mbps

I thought you had quit and gone to UFB. Why still complain here when noone else seems to have as many issues as you.

(1) I don't know where you live but it takes more than a few days for UFB to happen.

(2) I didn't realise I had to pass post through you for approval, I will do that from now on.

I made a lot of changes on Sunday which I was going to detail here but the attitude of some lost my motivation to do so.

Chorus pushed the fibre install date back yet again. It's set for Tuesday now. Fortunately, FibreX has been performing brilliantly during this past week.

I've also been able to break 70 MB/s on Steam, which is the absolute best performance I've ever seen there.

Looks like Vodafone's really improved things. Shame that it's too late for me to stay onboard at this point - would have certainly stuck with it if it had consistently performed like this at all times.

That's pretty good - just gave it a try now at 835pm, havent been >900 for a while. All the rain in welly must be making the copper go faster.

Has Vodafone been doing maintenance during the night or something? The connection has died two nights in a row now, and it went down promptly around midnight tonight. Performance has remained good, but reliability has not.

Also, both Chorus and MyRepublic have confirmed next Tuesday as my install date for fibre. Can't foresee anymore complications there. I should do some one-on-one comparisons between the two connections before I cancel the FibreX plan.

I have had a dropout or two lately at night and was also wondering about it.

It's times like this that I wish there was a -1 button.  I am interested in what Mike has to say and I doubt I am the only one. This is an open forum and there is no need for this sort of reply thanks.

I've still had no need to reboot the cable modem since the firmware upgrade. I did notice downer down the road other day doing something to what I assume is a line amplifier

This week has been very stable for us, (close your eyes Loki) we have not experienced any known outages and our speed has been constantly high. I did have to reset our alarm system this morning so I am guessing there may have been a planned work outage overnight.

However you are no longer using the supplied router....

Correct, I wonder just what affect the HG659 played in all this. I can say though Vodafone have been excellent in their support.

Chorus came by several days early today and was able to install both inside and outside. MyRepublic provisioned what they needed to on their end, and I now have fibre!! The improvement is already massive, especially with regards to latency. In-game latency has dropped from 44+ ms with a lot of fluctuation to a solid 32 ms. Latency is virtually unaffected by anything, even speed tests. I get lower latency now to Auckland than I previously did to Wellington.

Connection speed is also fantastic, of course. I'm breaking 200 Mbps on YouTube with ease, and speed test results are consistent and awesome.

Loving this so far! Contemplating moving some stuff that I host remotely to in-home now, especially since I expect the connection will be more reliable. :)
